Percy???

Gosh, surprisebaby and I had said that we hadn't had any really bad comments on this thread!

Thanks for your opinion, I think its lovely, it was my Grandfathers name and we will strongly consider using it. Unpopular, hideous and bad might put some off but it actually makes me like it even more, call me stubborn.

I do appreciate everyones views but think we can all put things nicely, even if we think its a strange choice....

:hugs: I agree, that was so uncalled for. I like the name. Sure it may be a little old fashioned (so is my daughters name!) but names come back into the mainstream, and I think it is a good strong name! :)

I thought of Percy from Harry Potter first too, but I like the name.

It's traditional but not too over-used and you could always give him a middle name that he could use instead if he really didn't like it when he was older.

How funny, a 'rabbit' called Percy that isn't referring to an animal! I shall not let that put me off!!!

Oh I'm glad it didn't put you off, it's just the reason I wouldn't call my son Percy! :haha: I've always thought there is something very cute about it and its not the sort of name that would hinder him if he wanted to become a high court judge or anything!

And I think there is a high chance that he won't like it, because it seems a really unpopular name- I think it sounds bad.

I'm sure there are a lot of people here who can attest to having 'popular names' and how much they hated being 1 of 6 with the same name in their class at school.

Blimey i have just read suprisebabys post very shocked with the hideous bit rather harsh!!!

i'm so glad i never asked anyones opinon on my LO name i just told them what she was being called and if they didn't like it tough!!!!

as you can see her name is Enid Gertrude but i call her Gertie and sometimes even BERT lol

Enid is such a fab name! I love that!

Regarding the name Percy, I think it would be nice if his full name was Percival and you shortened it to Percy. That way when he is older he can use either really. I also like old fashioned names a lot!!

Enid is my mum's name - so its most definitely FAB :happydance:

lol i love the GERTIE! as a nickname for you LO its too cute! :)

xx

Hey just thought I would mention that I think my post was quite harsh!, but I didn't mean it to be offensive.:) just that you wanted people's opinions (the point of the thread!!), so I didn't try to make it all sound nice for the sake of it. Its not personal, just purely my thoughts on the actual name. But I kinda forgot pregnant people including myself are sensitive so I should have in retrospect omitted the bad part of what I wanted to say and said only the positive. but yeah good luck with your name choice and pregnancy.

Some people may see Percival (Percy) as an outdated, old fashioned name, but it's still very popular. Two of my friends are called Percival and one is in his 20s, and the other in his 30s.

Just to say I think my use of the word "hideous" was unfair and some of the other stuff I said. I feel bad about that. i just don't like the name (well obviously!!), but I agree I should these things in a nicer way. I think I am very moody this week and somehow I am drawn to this forum when I am in an argumentitive mood. Actually I think I spelt that wrong, but I think this name forum gave me a nightmare the other night!! (Maybe that's what I deserved!!!!). Ok better go xx

I think it's cute but i just know my OH would say "no", like he has to so many other of my suggestions :dohh: Lol.

I would definitely opt for Percival though and then shorten it down to percy

surprisebaby, please don't feel bad, as you said, I did ask for opinions and was certainly expecting so adverse reactions so, thank you.

Embrace your moodiness while we've all got an excuse for it! And good luck to you too....

laura3103 - I'm a Laura and am guessing you are too, my first choice for girls name is Gertie! I love it. What a coincidence.

Thanks too to the other ladies who have commented. Its really appreciated.

I shall continue to search through the name books, the internet, this forum and see if any other boys names become appealing - its just so tricky!

That was my Grandads name. It's lovely and has been used since as my cousins sons middle name.

Nicola xx

It's a nice name but like someone else said, cute for a little boy and an old man but can't see the middle bit working somehow. Also, reminds me of Percy the Park Keeper as I used to love those books as a child.

I think it's lovely and i think it's all about having the confidence to call your child what you want. We've picked out the name Arthur and most people we've told are of the thinking it's old-fashioned and perhaps it is, but 'we' like it and plus our little man will be named after his grandad, so to us it's special.
If you like it go with it, but if you're wavering now, it's probably best to have a rethink, just don't let others influence your decision and deter you from giving your baby a name 'you' like. xx
