Hi ladies,

OK, I'm kind of concerned about my AF... just wanted to compare notes before I see my dr. next week. My periods the last two cycles have been accompanied with excruciating cramps and large blood clots and bright red blood. In 12 years of being on the pill, they were light, easy, and gone in 3 days. Since being off the pill the past 10 months, they've gradually gotten worse.

Is this normal? Should I be concerned about the clots and the horrendous cramps? Could it be a sign of something?

Any help/comments would be appreciated.

As always, wishing you all health, and :dust:

Thanks!! :flower:

One thing the pill does is reduce the amount of bleeding and cramps. That's why so many girls/women are placed on it (obviously as birth control too). When I was in school, nearly all my class friends were on it for this reason. When on the pill you aren't having a 'true' period either, it's known as a withdrawal bleed. Unfortunately, it sounds like you naturally have heavy periods.

I, however, am not a medical expert and may be completely wrong, I can only tell you what I know from experience, your doctor should be able to give you more accurate advice rather than generalising.

I was put on the pill because of heavy AF, the Dr said this type of thing can just happen.

It turns out I have PCOS and aren't ovulating, so my lining just builds up and up. Are you regular? Mine were 6/7 weeks apart so I have 6 weeks of lining instead of 2. Not saying this is the same for you.

May be worth a wee trip to your GP, just to put your mind at rest.

OK thanks so much ladies. I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones! lol.. I have an appointment this week (actually having a HSG) so I'll let him know at that point that I'm concerned. I know women who have little to no cramping around that time, so my agony kind of raised a reg flag.

Thanks so much for your replies.

This started happening to me after getting off the pill. Like the cramps have been enough for me to call my husband home from work, enough to go to the hospital. I had heavy bleeding usually on the 2nd day. Turns out I have PCOS but was never tested for it because I have my periods in a "normal" 28-32 day cycle. So 5 years of excruciating pain later someone listened to me and tested me. I'd say tell your doctor to test you for PCOS! :)

Clotting can sometimes be a sign of hormonal imbalances. Have you ever had your estrogen/progesterone checked?

Actually, I just had my blood work done last week, so I'm waiting to hear...

Does a HSG test for PCOS? I'm having one done in the morning, so hope to see something there... Thanks so much for your reply. :flower:

i have noooo idea. this medical stuff is all new to me at this point, i just know with initial testing she took a bunch of blood and told me i have PCOS but my testosterone was at normal levels (i know thats a big thing with PCOS). im guessing i have a mild case of it but it still effects me in the infertility aspect, and the trouble losing weight, other than that i have no other signs of it. i figure if you mention it to your doc and say you want them to take the measures to find out if you have it theyll know what to do! good luck! :flower:
