Babezone, I love your avatar! Always makes me smile when I see it :)

Post up some piccies!

If finding time to take a course is difficult, I would suggest using the photography forums you can find online, along with books and magazines. That's how I taught myself - I've never taken any courses.

they are great shazza!!! Do u use any editing software?

Thanks :)

Most of my photos I don’t edit as I don’t actually know how to use Photoshop other than doing extremely basic things like cropping etc. I’m also trying to concentrate more on getting the picture and composition right first time using the camera rather than getting in the habit of correcting stuff using editing software afterwards. Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against editing but I would prefer to get the basic picture looking good first. Eventually I would definitely like to do a course on Photoshop so I can learn how to edit pictures as it would be helpful eventually.

My husband did show me a plug in that you can use on Photoshop which I have been playing around with. It has various settings in it which you apply to the picture (Simplify, Exposure Correction, Photo Colour Pop etc) it doesn’t always make much difference but occasionally it will just give the picture more definition. I can’t remember the name of it now as it is on my laptop at home but I can have a look tonight and will put it up on here – it’s really easy to use. I used it on a couple of the pictures above.

Anna – I did a colour version of the centotaph shot which I also really liked but thought it might look nice using selective colour so I got my husband to show me how to do it. I was really pleased with the way it came out :)

Hey ladies can I join the photography club please?

You’ve probably seen my reply in the other thread. I am currently using a Canon 40d as my main camera but I also have a Canon Ixus 80 point and shoot which I take on the occasions that taking a bulky SLR isn’t really an option.

I have found that since I started getting into photography more I don’t look at anything in the same way. I will always catch myself thinking “that would make a great picture” though I have been caught out a few times when I’ve seen a fantastic picture in the making and not had my camera with me – I could do with carrying my point and shoot with me all the time just in case one of those moments occur.

I have an account on Flickr and I have found that joining a few groups is good, especially those that have challenges each week or month as it forces me to take different kinds of pictures with my camera that I might not have tried before. I think that a theme each week would be great – I would definitely be up for doing something like that.

Some themes that could be used: Water, Colour, Landscapes, Flowers, Macro, Portraits, Urban Landscapes, Abstract, Animals. Theres loads of things you can choose from.

A couple more of my favourite shots:

I took this picture of my cat Smudge the day I got my camera. Unfortunately the day after she passed away totally unexpectedly :( she was my one of my favourite subjects to photograph and I am just so glad I managed to get this lovely picture before she was taken from us.

Superb light trails image!
:hugs: It's so hard to lose a beloved pet - what a gorgeous photo to remember Smudge by!

Nature's a great theme. Means I might even be able to take a new shot for it, as I just need to set foot in the garden with the camera with my macro lens :happydance:
