I used to have a small photography business (portraits). :) I gave it up to focus on my son, and because most photographers in my area charge way too little to compete with (but that's another story lol).

I shoot with a Nikon D700, but shot Canon for a while too.

I'm surprised there isn't a board on here dedicated to photography. Do we just post in this thread?

A recent photo of my son this Halloween.

Shot with my 70-200mm: f/2.8, 1/400, ISO 400

Ooh I could be at home here! I'll come back later with some photos :)

DF shut up, you're brilliant! If you go on youtube there's loads of instructional vids, and I have some cheat sheets I can email you if you like!?

Probably so thick I wont be able to understand them lol My dad had to teach me how to do an indoor shot the other day. There are still functions I didnt know existed on my camera. I want to take more pics with blurred back grounds.

A good lens for that is 50mm 1.8.
If you learn about using aperture priority mode too you can control how much is in focus etc a lot better than auto modes.

cool. I learn by trial and error I should really go on a course or something but I have no time and ways to get to these things these days.

The Internet is a great teacher! I also highly recommend the 'for dummies' books - I keep mine close when figuring out something new with the camera. They do one tailored to most makes/models.

I really do need some literature to read on it,. I think i will get a dummies book. I could do so much more I think.

I hate suggesting the "for dummies" books in case people get offended :dohh:, but I swear by mine. Plain English explanations of just about everything you could want to know. Perfect!

Not offended at all I think it suits me LMAO. I dont know what to post a pic of we should have a theme every week or something.

I completely agree.... the 50mm 1.8 is great and only just over $100!

The shallow depth of field really makes portraits pop!

I use my 50mm all the time, especially in the studio! We should have a theme, maybe we could have a competition type thing, so the first week could be open theme, then we all vote, and the winner of that chooses the next theme!?
