I'm SO glad this thread was started! I've always been interested in photography but I've never really thought about taking it seriously. Now I actually have the time to do a part-time course at college and it won't cost ££££'s either! I'm looking around at different cameras at the moment so I can have a fiddle around on one before I start. This has really motivated me to get started!

i had been accepted onto an hnd photography & creative imaging course to start last sept, but didnt start coz of the ever expanding bump at the time

dunno, they were a bit vague when i asked that last year.... gonna maybe get onto them again, altho i'm not sure now if i want to just keep this as my hobby, so i continue to enjoy it - you know?

Neecee, I don't know anything about the Kodak camera you posted a link to, but I've owned 2 Fujis very similar to the links you posted and they were both excellent cameras. I still have one of the Fujis put away, ready for when Alyssa starts taking photos (fingers crossed!)

Ahhh, yes, I'm still looking at the Fuji one. One more question please; what's more important, megapixels or optical zoom? I'm looking at the S5700 and the S5800, one's 7.1mp and the other's 8.0mp. The rest of the specs seem the same, just the price and mp is different. Thanks so much for your help!
