LO has chicken pox and I fear the itchies will start over the weekend. I have the oats for the bath and the Virasoothe for the spots, but just in case I need to bring the big guns out I'm wondering if it's OK to give LO some Piriton. It's for 1 year and up, LO is almost 11 months. What do you think?

I think our LOs must be almost exactly the same age and I'm in the same situation. Personally I'm not going to give him piriton. If he gets really bad I might give the doctor a call and see what they say...

When we saw the GP he said 'you can try Piriton but it didn't really work for my boys', he knows how old she is so I took that as a tacit approval - going to see how bad she gets, will only seriously consider it if it's keeping her from sleeping and we've tried everything else.

It's tricky isn't it cause half of me wonders how different ds2 is going to be in a month physically and also you kinda think the pharmaceutical companies are covering themselves so I don't know. I'm not a rule breaker lol. Extra tempting as I already have a bottle as ds1 is just recovering from chicken pox and he had it...

Aww your poor LO, get well soon! Some babies don't get too rough with it, so you might be lucky and not need it- fingers crossed anyway. (Just as an aside, I probably would give it, but i don't have any medical back up whatsoever for that and I haven't tried it.)

Hi, I'd give it. It really helped my 3 year old when she had chicken pox and after each of her 5 major ops between the ages of 6 and 18 months she was given it because morphine causes itching. She was dosed up in it for days on end from 6 months so it can't be that bad xxx
