My ds is 11 days old. He has latched on straight from birth and has not had any problems latching. My milk started to come in around 5 days pp so I was advised to suppliment with formula for 10 minutes after each feeding. At 6 days my ds was admitted to the hospital for jaundice, his levels were high at 23 and was under light therapy for 1 1/2 days. He had breastmilk jaundice. For this time he was exclusively formula fed and I had to pump every two hours. At this time I was getting about .5 to 1 ounces per pumping session. The dr released us from the hospital and said I could resume breast feeding.
We had a follow up pediatrician Appointmnet the next day. He was 10 days old and has not gained his birth weight (4 oz off). So the pedis told me to breastfeed for 10 mins on each side and then 10 minutes of formula. First of all I think the pedi should have put into perspective that he had breastmilk jaundice and is healthy now. He also said I could resume breastfeeding as soon as I was engorged, leaking/spraying milk wtf.
I called and spoke to a lactation specialist about getting my supply up and she was not useful at all. She said "well if that is what the dr says".
Yesterday I was able to pump 1 oz after a feeding. Then later that night after ds had nursed I pumped again and hardly got anything. (i was told to pump adter feeding by my LC after birth) I have been told to do 4 different things by different LC and drs. I just want to know what I can do to keep my supply up. Im about ready to give up! Sometimes ds is satisfied after 10 minutes and sometimes after 45 minutes. He had more than enough wet/dirty diapers. I am so close to being done breastfeeding, I feel like I have no support from those that are suppose to help (drs and LC). Please any advice.
