Hi ladies...

Lo had his three week growth spurt and he really upped my supply but too much!!!!
I have massive boobs and now he goes to drink and pulls away coz it comes down so fast and hard and there's so much ... He gets so much wind and screams at my boobs!
I thought this was reflux but he's fine laying down and last night we have him an expressed bottle and he was totally fine!!!!!

Obviously it's my boobs!

This is he'll he's constantly uncomfortable coz of the gas and always screaming at my boobs and won't latch for more than2 mins before he has to pull off and breath for air...

So for a couple days I'm gonna express on demand... So dh will give him a bottle while I express and I'm hoping this will regulate things coz he just can't eat properly and my supply isn't fixing itself coz he's screaming so my supply keeps giving like he's still hungry but he's not he's just frustrated and uncomfy.

So he takes about 110ml in a bottle so I'm expressing 60ml from each breast.

Is this ok?

I will still do two feeds a day so he still latches ok and hope that in a couple days I can return to full boobs once they deflate and don't wanna drown him in milk !!!

Basically I wanna know of any of u expressed on demand? Is what I'm thinking ok? I can always top up from boob if he's still hungry coz I will have expressed the first part so it won't drown him.

I don't wanna loose bfing from me tho coz I love doing it but I haven't had any sleep in two days and he was the most settled baby until this happened.

Thanks in advance

Nooo dont express!!! I have had oversupply issues with both of my los and expressing was the worst thing for it. If it is just the growth spurt that has caused it it will sort itself out. Untill that time read the tips on kellymom.com with regards to having too much milk/overactive letdown.Things like feeding in a reclined position will help, and a couple of days of block feeding will probably sort it out anyway. I give my dd infacol to help with wind and it seems to make her more comfortable. Good luck in whatever you try. X

I don't mean express Aswell I mean express whatever he takes... Like give him a bottle at the same time as I'm expressing and whatever he takes ill express ... So basically taking exactly what he would no difference at all but just giving it to him via bottle because he is struggling on boob... I don't mean expressing any extra at all coz obviously that would up my supply even more...

Oh right, it could wk then, Although i would still try and just ride it out if i were you. I dont know bout your lo but sometimes mine will have a big feed and sometimes just a snack. What if you expressed say 5oz when he was showing hunger signs but he only drank 2oz? Then you would be pumping more than his needs? How would you know how much to pump? Hmm maybe some exclusive pumpers can shed some light! X

I'm very luck in that a have a few spare bottles already and dh can feed while I pump so I know exactly what to pump if that makes sense... It's just that the over supply is affecting him that much in the evening especially that the last three days he's brought up big parts of his feed after and quite a few feeds aswell...

I have been doing it today and I just bfed last feed and he has been grumpy since when he'd been so happy through the day :(
So I think I will persevere for tonight and tomoro and see how we go coz I can't deal with such an upset little man every night it's killing me and not to mention the vomiting (which he hasn't done today since I been doing this) I've had 3 showers a day the Last few days and lo has been having showers with me coz he gets all spewed on :(

I'd be careful with expressing, even if it doesn't cause your supply to worsen it could cause your lo to refuse the breast because the bottle is so much easier. If you have access to a la leche league or lactation consultant I'd talk to them. My lo and I struggled with this and with block feeding and perserverence it worked out.

Here are some good websites on over active letdown and supply...

thanks so much for this! I think this is what's happening to me and my babe. I found these links so helpful xxx

what do you mean by block feeding?

Block feeding is when you feed only nurse on one side for a block of time. So for example you offer only your left breast for 2 hours. Then you offer only your right breast for 2 hours.

OP have you tried offering LO the breast after let down has happened?
