Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum in terms of posting but have lingered over it for a while tee hee.....hello to everyone and thanks for your advice and help in anticipation........

Anyway, just back from doctors who were not too great to say the least. We feel a bit confused and let down really. My partner (don't know all the lingo yet) went for his sperm test and we just went very nervously for the results. To say he didn't really seem to know what he was talking about was an understatement. He didn't even go through the results and seemed like a rabbit in the headlights when I asked him to explain. He apologised for needing a crib sheet (he called it that) and stuttered a bit and said everything looked normal. We basically are just worried as we don't have much confidence in him and are not sure whether everything does look normal! I have 2 blood tests to do and a chlamidia (sorry it's spelt badly) test to do. I can't do them until september as we 're on holiday last 2 weeks of august when my cycle begins again for the day 1 and day 18 test (!!!???) He I have got to do the chlamidia test myself with this long stick but he didn't even explain that fully. I felt like crying.

We have been trying for 15 months. I am 38 and partner is 40.

I realise i may have put this in the wrong place and apologies if i have. I also realised that this is probably nothing compared to what other people are going through, so again apologies. I didnt want to offend anyone i just wanted some help/advice as doc was clueless.

These are the results we don't even understand! Anyone have any ideas:

volume 1.3
initial count million/ml 27
progressive motility 27
rapid % 20
total motile count 9.477 (seems low - dont understand what it even is! sorry to be thick - is their health?)
viability % no result shown on that bit at all

normal forms 11

someone has scribbled TA on bottom with an arrow - wonder what that means?

We're praying that this is a normal or at least ok set of results like doc said but he seemed to just want us out of the room and didn't answer our questions.
sorry this has gone on soooo long

look forward to hearing people's thoughts,

love to all

Hi there,

I'm not too good at understanding results, when me and oh started with the blood tests etc our doctor was the same and didnt really explain them very well either so I made another appointment with a diffrent doctor to go through them with us. x

Hi Hun,

Your results look fine I think. The only one im not clear on is the motility as your total motility count is lower than the progressive and rapid!

Ours was given as total motile count and then subdivided into rapid, sluggish and non progressive. The sum of these three was equal to the total count. Our analysis gave the following reference values:

Volume >2ml
Number per ml >20 million
Total count >40 million
Normal forms >15% - sometimes referred to as morphology
Motility (total) >50%

Have they asked hubby to do a repeat? They say that one analysis doesnt always tell you much. If you are worried about the doc apparent lack of experience can you ring your surgery and ask which docs specialise in fertility / gynaecology and then see them instead? Thats what we did as didnt have much confidence in my usual doctor.

I hope that helps

Love fluffy xx
