Polish Eating Swans

I'm so hungry now I could eat a swan.

Seriously, I've eaten worse (I think, since I haven't eaten swan).

Octopus, squid, snails, goot fish, eel, caviar, kangaroo, crocodile, sprouts, I've tried them all at least once.

every time i hear the word swan my brain cuts back to my mother telling me when i was a child that swans can break your arm. so now i'm terrified of them, my OH thinks its hilarious :haha: seriously i can't think of any food worth going to the effort of catching a wild animal for, defrosting a veggie burger is enough work for me!

"Polish people" (like the Poles in general) do not eat swan meat, for the record, lol, in case anyone thinks so because of this thread :dohh: I think the OP was worded horribly and comes off as quite offensive.

I am Polish and very offended by this :growlmad:

I just had swan tikka masala for my tea and it was scrumdiddlyumptious :D

(I'm not Polish really!)

I have some Polish employees defo going to ask them tomorrow. I've never been invited around for swan yet!

Off topic Frankie but I love the picture in your siggy box 4 ex Sunderland managers where did you get it are you a SAFC fan?

well i just heard it all now

i seriously dont think its true. but yanno if they did in their own country (cant here cos they are protected)

so what, whats the difference between a swan, duck, chicken

This threads been a hoot, but on a serious note, I think its a myth that the swans are disappearing due to Polish people eating them :)
sounds like madness, I cant imagine anyone going to such an effort.
If there were some pretty hungry people around I'm sure they would go for something a bit easier to catch. It looks a bit obvious chasing a swan around.

Think that what maybe was seen was some pretty nasty individuals being cruel for the sakes of it, you get some idiots shooting them with airguns as they get a kick out of it.
Also lot of swans die or go missing from swallowing fishing hooks or getting poisoned from polluted rivers, they have a lot going against them really!

So what if the polish do eat swans?

We eat beef which for some religions is a sacred animal.

i think the issue was with them battering a swan round the head in the uk where it is illegal :flower:

And pretty terrible no matter who was doing it. If they were Polish it doesn't mean everyone in Poland batters swans to death for food. I can't imagine my friend from Poland hunting on the local duck pond for swans.

I think it's probably the same sort of urban myth that we used to tell as teenages about the local takeaway, unnamed meat on the menu, disappearing cats and the discovery of lots of little collars with bells on in the takeaway rubbish bin by the health inspector.

next time i go into my work (nandos) ill ask my fellow polish eemployees if the have been swaping chicken for swans

I definitely took offense to the wording of that first post...
As lozzy said, we eat beef which is considered sacred.
I definitely don't agree with how they were attempting to kill a swan... But perhaps if they were right from Poland, and not living in the UK, they may not realize that it was not appropriate to eat swan, and obviously those people in particular (whether they be Polish or anything else) obviously are lacking in something if they're going to beat a swan with a stick in public... Or they're just stupid and felt like beating a swan. Either way, being Polish has nothing to do with it.

If it is the story i heard, it did not say there nationality but that they were homeless and starving.

Well girls,if you really want to eat some swan, why not import for $999?

Bargain!

had to have some medieval orgins in there somewhere.

I think if something is in vast numbers then its usually culled, they do this with deer in Richmond Park and the Aussies cull their Kangeroos.
Swans are protected in the UK as numbers were dwindling.

Yep we do cull kangaroos, humanely of course :flower:

And boy are they yummy, really low in fat too!!

I have no problem with the eating of swans, doesnt appeal to me but different countries eat different types of animals and all probarly think its normal!

But i do have a problem with animals being bashed, animal cruelty etc. :nope:

What does Kangaroo taste like?

If i saw someone doing that i would probably beat them with a stick myself :hissy:
