Ethan is on Aptamil follow on at the moment. Since he's been on Aptamil his poo has been very runny and for about the past 3 months is almost always like a greeny colour. He doesn't have any bother pooing or anything and is now on 2-3 meals a day and they are still runny. I'm not really bothered about the greeny colour, from what I've read some babies do have greeny coloured poo but the fact that it is still so runny has be slightly concerned. I'm thinking maybe I should try to put him on SMA - I know that i've read alot of reports about it causing tummy problems but now he is nearly 8 months maybe he will be ok? I'm thinking that it might help solidify his poo slightly

Omar has been on Aptamil follow on since he was 7 months but he never had runny or green poo because of it. Maybe it doesnt suit him. Which formula was he taking before the follow on? U can go back to his old formula as they dont really need the follow on unless they'r off their stage one formula or not taking enough. xx

How runny? My boys poop is runny and green but I don't consider it a problem. It's almost like toothpaste. The green is extra iron which is just fine too.

I'll definitely be checking back on this thread... my 8 day old baby is still having "yellow seedy loose" stools and is also formula fed. Sometimes they are even a bit watery (large amount of seedy stool with a ring of wet stain around it). Definitely doesn't look like peanut butter like it's supposed to. He's eating well and having lots of wet diapers so I don't think it's diarrhea but would like to know if it's normal or not!

Thanks,

Bert

Most modern formulas do create poo like BF baby poo, because of the prebiotics/probiotics that are in them; they may have a stronger smell but texture wise they are similar. Its totally normal. Comfort formulas are even worse for this problem but overall your baby will be more comfortable and their digestion better. If you want the 'old school' formula poo you need to try an old-school formula such as SMA; but it really is harmless if your LO has poo that is runny and/or green (or yellow and seedy).

I think it's normal hun. Omar's poo was the same & he was fed Aptamil AR. He had green harder poo when he was on a different formula (NAN gold), but when we switched to Aptamil his poo was loose & yellow like BF babies' poo (I compared it with my cousin's poo who's BF :haha:)

Your still in very early days so babies poop is still adjusting (as is his digestive system). But I did go to my dr for this exact reason! He said it was totally normal and to be expected. Just thought I'd pass that along!

Thanks! Today he's had a wee bit of mucus in his stools but they are getting darker and more solid. I'm thinking the mucus is from the transition. Since he doesn't have a fever and is eating well and sleeping well, I'm going to take that as a sign he's fine.

It's so hard not to worry! Who'd have thunk we'd inspect the poop to make sure everything is okay.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I feel abit better about it now. I've just kept him on the Aptamil follow on. Alwayspraying - Ethan's is like a toothpaste consistency too, It's just the colour that was getting to me abit and knowing that it is just the extra iron makes me feel better. Bertsbaby1 - I'm nearly sure Ethan has poo like that to begin with and they started to change maybe when he was a couple of months old :flower:
