Is anyone familiar with this test? I guess it's a test that can indicate the likelihood of preterm labor. Last night I went to labor and delivery because I was experiencing contractions, although painful they weren't showing very strong on the monitor. My cervix was still long which is great but I ended up testing positing for the Fetal fibronectin test. So basically there is a chance of early delivery but it isn't for sure. I'm receiving steroid injections now to help mature baby's lungs just in case.

Have you or anyone you know had experience with this test? What was the outcome? I don't want an early baby and still having contractions so I'm a little concerned. Thanks ladies!

I went in at 28 weeks with contractions and they told me that if the test comes up negative, then I wouldn't go into pre-term labor, but even if it came up positive, that still didn't mean I'd go into pre-term labor.

It is very accurate in telling that you won't go into labor early. A positive just means that there is a risk that you could, but does NOT mean that you will go into labor within the next 2 weeks.

Isn't that weird! Huge unknown with this positive test. Getting cervix checked again in a few hours hopefully no change there, less worry when cervix is still long.

I had this few days ago. I had a lovely bath and things hav calmed down. However walkin around he feels just there!! Xx

How many weeks are you? Cervix still long and closed? I'm still having infrequent contractions today so I hope when they recheck my cervix it's still long and closed.

I had an arrrrse of a dr he just said i was closed but soft he used a speculum tho so how would he no?? Im 31+4 today i got my pos on sat night. Cnt believ how different this feels. Iv had soooooo many problems in this pregnancy now tho i just want him here.. Whereabouts r u based? im uk x

I had one done and it was negative which means I am 99% sure to NOT go into labour in the next 14 days. That being said, the positive results are only about 50% accurate (According to my doctor) because if you have even a tiny trace of blood (maybe from a thinning cervix) or semen, or bacteria of any kind really, it can fudge the results and give you a false positive. That is why they cannot even use lubrication when doing the test...Just try and rest a bit, maybe have a nice warm bath or something to calm your nerves, I have been having contractions (not painful but CAN be uncomfortable) for 3 weeks -.-; The only thing I was told is drink lots of water and try to rest as much as possible.

Hoping with you that your little one stays put for several more weeks :flower: I'm in the US.

My Doc told me when this test shows positive it's still only a 20% chance of going into labour within 2 weeks, so only really used to determine a negative result. It's not very helpful when it comes up positive! Hope baby stays put a bit longer.

x

Thnk u hun i hope urs does too. Im now on bed rest enforced by my oh.. Wat do they do in th us to stop labour? Xx

Popping in from second trimester.

Are they giving you anything to stop the contractions you're having now?

With dd I was in labor from 27 weeks on. They gave me steroids for her lungs just in case she came, but they gave me magnesium sulfate through an iv to stop the contractions. I lived in WV at the time.

At 29 weeks I went into threatened pre-term labour and had this test come back positive. As others said, they do the test more for the negative outcome, because it is pretty accurate in telling you that pre-term labour is not in the near future. I had to go through the steroid injections and all that lovely song and dance too.

I am 37 weeks tomorrow and didn't go into pre-term labour despite my positive results. I wouldn't worry too much!

Oh, I should also note that my contractions never went away, they simply slowed down. I got them every 10 minutes or so until this week, when they've become a bit closer. It's a pain, but my doctor says some women are just 'lucky' like this!

When did you end up delivering?

Well they give meds to stop contractions but since my cervix was still long last night she said she will wait on that because the meds make you feel terrible. I'm really hoping cervix has not changed but also hoping this contraction pain would stop!

No:/ doc said she isn't a fan of the meds because they make you feel terrible so since my cervix was still long last night no meds to stop them. They are mostly less painful than last night but I'm tired of being in pain now! Really hoping though that when I go back to hospital in a couple of hours my cervix hasn't changed.

Eek so you've had contractions for 8 weeks! I've been complaining from 2 days! Very good to know though, thanks so much for replying!!!

This is me as well, but I'll be 34 weeks tomorrow. Had 4 positives so far since 27 weeks and have been 1.5 50% since then. Dr gave me meds to take if contractions got too bad, but told me they are for my own comfort. He said I have an irritable uterus and that I don't need them to prevent labor. I never really take one as they make me feel HORRIBLE. hopefully your LO will stay put too :)
