I have noticed a few threads from ladies worried about their NT results. I thought it might give you some confidence to hear my story. I am currently just over 15 weeks pregnant (my ticker is two days out). OH and I went for the combined test at 12+2. We had our first scan and the blood tests were taken on the same day. They said we would need to wait 3-4 days for our results. We left feeling fine as nothing had been said by the sonographer other than everything looked normal. The nuchal fold result was 2.67, which I thought was ok.

Anyway, the next day I received a phonecall telling me that I was very high risk - 1 in 7 chance of Downs. To be honest I felt completely shell shocked and very frightened - so did OH. I was also very frustrated because noone could tell me why the risk was so high. I am 35 so I was way higher than my age risk. I spent the weekend obssessively searching the internet and could only find a small number of people who had similar or even higher results.

We went for a CVS test, which was quite scary. The staff and consultant were very reassuring although he did say there was no getting away from the fact it was a very high result. He explained that the result was so high because all three of my results moved in the wrong direction towards the higher risk results. The results were:

HCG 1.38
PAPPA 0.46
N Fold 2.67

Anyway, after a whole world of worrying we were delighted that the results came back perfectly normal!

I hope this offers some hope to those of you that are worrying - I am all too aware how tough it is!!!

Lots of love xxx

that's great news tateypot! :hugs:
Great thread so I thought I'd add my story.

After my first scan which went well, I had a call a few days later to say my results came back very high at 1:20. I was completely shocked and couldn't stop crying on and off for days. I only just turned 36 so did not expect anything like this. My Nt was 2.4 but it was that combined with blood results that made it high.
Had to wait two agonising weeks to have a CVS, which I had to do on my birthday :( Unlike most say I actually found it very painful, though I kept a brave face.
The wait for the results was also horrible, I didn't know what to do with myself, at one point when the phone rang I nearly threw up (and I've not really had any morning sickness at all).
Finally got our results back recently and had the all clear. Just hope that everything else is ok at our 20 week scan.

From what I've read, there seems to be a lot of initial false positive results out there so I wish good luck to all in that situation, I know what it's like. :hugs:

Thanks for this LittleL. I know exactly what you went through and also found the whole test quite painful and invasive. So pleased you had good results.
When I was looking for info on this on the internet at the time there did not seem to be many positive stories, so hopefully our stories will give others some reassurance.

Yeah good idea.
I also forgot to add, straight after the CVS a researcher approached us to talk to us about a non invasive test that they have been developing for a while. She said the research is still about 3 years away but they would only need to do a blood sample to be able to give pretty much the same results as a CVS or amnio. So I volunteered to give my blood sample for further research.
Would be easier in the future if it takes off plus there'd be no miscarriage risk.

I had the AFP test done and it came back 1:170 that our baby had down syndrome. My Dr then referred me to a specialist to have a level 2 ultrasound done (they measure everything) The level 2 ultrasound found 3 possible markers for down syndrome one of them being a NT of 5 mm. The specialist advised we have an amniocentesis which to be honest was the last thing DH and I wanted to do. We had the amnio done though because we wanted time to prepare if our baby did have DS or other chromosomal disorder and after a long 3 week wait we found out our baby was clear of having down syndrome and that our baby looked perfectly healthy and that no abnormalities were found.

So pleased everything ok for you - it is a very worrying time. xxx

Thank you this helps alot.. I really appreciate it.

My results were

Nt Scan 1.5
HCG 1.36
Pappa .50

So we were about the same in a way. Thank you so much for this post, my level II scan is on August 17th. Scared but looking forward to it.:hugs:
