Hello everyone, i am hoping that someone may have a positive story to offer.
i will start form the start. i am 24yrs old with my first baby, i went for my routine 20 week scan and everything looked great, except my little girls left kidney was slightly dilated. at this point i got told that it was nothing to worry about and it would probably resolve itself but they would check at 30 weeks. So i went along to my 30 week scan where the sonographer had a strange look on her face and asked if i had been leaking fluid......which i hadn't. We were later told that my little girls kidneys were now both enlarged and she had no fluid around her. We then got asked if we wanted to terminate the pregnancy as her outlook was not very good. We swiftly declinded this as she responds to voive and touch and has her own little personality. We were told the main concern is that without fluid her lungs may not have developed and they cant tell me when the fluid declined to the point it is now. We are just preying she had enough for long enough that her lungs have developed enough for her to survive then the kidneys can be taken care of.
Please does anyone have any stories to share? i just cannot fathom the thought of loosing my first little girl:nope: i believe deep in my heart that she will be ok!

I'm afraid i don't know anything about this but just wanted to send you hugs and my thoughts, hope everything goes well xxx

i too am ignorant to this issue, but wanted you to know that your little girl is in my prayers. for sure. please kup on how everything goes. HUGE HUGS.

Since your 31 weeks do they want to induce you? Did they discuss if inside or outside would be better for her?

With this pregnancy they noticed he had an enlarged kidney at our 20week ultrasound as well. My previous pregnancy I had my daughter at 31weeks, I went into PTL at 27. I was also put on progesterone shots to help PTL,So this pregnancy was already highrisk so they suggested I had monthly ultrasounds. Every ultrasound they checked his kidneys and the right one kept dilating, they also checked fluid to make sure I had enough for him. Are they going to be increasing your ultrasounds? I heard drinking alot of water can help with water levels but i'm not sure if it will help after they are gone.

Sorry my post is so long, but the best you can do is stay strong for your little girl and since your 32 weeks she could of had fluid for a long time and lungs might be ok!! You guys will be in my thoughts :hugs::hugs:

Thank you so much for ur replies and kind words. Even though there is no fluid around her they would like me to get as close to full term as possible, so of she needs intervention for her kidneys she will be big enough. And at the moment I am doing the work of her lungs and kidneys for her so she can build up her strength. They are watching us closely with weekly scans and I am getting a course of steroids at about 34 weeks. She had fluid around her at 20 weeks so u just pray it was there for at least a few weeks after that!!!

:hugs: Oh hun I can only imagine what you're going through.

My waters went at 14 weeks and my fluid levels dropped to 3cm. Thankfully they've healed themselves now and my fluid is back up to 11cm but I can understand that initial terror.

I was told that if my waters continued to stay low they too would let me go as far to full term as they could and at 34 weeks would start injecting me with fluid as that's when your body naturally starts to lose fluid in preparation for labour. Can you not have that?

I really really hope everything turns out well hun. My situation was different but I'm always here if you need to talk :hugs:

This probably sounds daft and I'm sure you're already doing it but drink lots. It helped me bring my fluid levels up... I'm not sure if it can help you but anything is worth a try :hugs:

hiya this is loooooooooooong lol

So we went for our 20 week scan and there were alot of problems but I will just talk about the water problem, they said that my depest part of water was 1cm and that there could be a problem with the baby as it is the babys pee that makes most of the water, so we were referred to the fetal medicine unit at Glasgow and then they done a more detailed scan and Ellie was said to be very very small and they thought that she migh have had edwards syndrome or pacauds syndrome or i might have been a placenta problem or I had a viral infection that I gave to her but I had an amnio and the chromosomes and viral were negative so we thought that it had to be a placenta problem but still at 26 weeks they advised a termination but i knew that Ellie was fine,

So we had to go for weekly scans and was told it would be del anytime soon I had steroid injections to mature her lungs and then long story short we kept going gor scans and the water picked up adn I had loads lol

We went for a scan on the 5th Nov just as normal and they noticed that the blood flow was decreasing so they decided to del next day by section telling us that Ellie would be under 3lbs she was born on th 6th Nov at 4lb 3oz and was perfect just a little small and came home after 7 weeks in special care

What are they saying is your care xx

:hugs:Hope your lo is going to be ok. My ds had a severely dilated kidney discovered at 20 weeks And the other looked as though it had died, Thankfully it was fine in later scans The dilation got slowly worse. He was born 4 weeks ago and spent first 10days in hospital. He had an ultrasound to check on dilation which had increased drastically and the enlargement visable externally at 3days old was decided he would be rushed to a specialist hospital and he was operated on at 5days old. He had a 1cm narrowing of the tube going from kidney to bladder this narrowing was removed and he had a catheter coming out his kidney for 2 weeks after. The catheter has been removed now an hes doing fantastically. Hes on antibiotics for next 3months and needs to have another scan next month and a kidney functioning test as well.

I have no experience on the lack of fluid tho but it is common with a baby with kidney problems. I fully understand the pain and difficultlies your going through as was told at 21weeks Jake probably wouldn't make it and to name him as by law we had to for burial reasons  the whole family really went through a rough time waiting 4weeks to see what the next scan showed.

Lots of :hugs:
Fiona

My daughter had a dilated kidney and low amniotic fluid from 29 weeks. I went into preterm labour at 30 which was stopped fortunately. DD was born at 35 weeks, 7lb 6oz. She had test after test and was very jaundiced for the first 5 months, she remained on antibiotics until she turned 18 months. She was diagnosed with renal reflux. She's 8 now and apart from the occasional kidney infection, is 100% healthy.

Good luck!
