Hi ladies, do any of you have any experience of this?
I finally got to see the lactation consultant on Friday and she said that lo has a posterior tongue tie. I'm going to call the doctor who does the snip on Monday, but would love to hear your stories!
Is it very different from a regular tongue tie and snip?
Thanks x

I don't think it's very different. My oldest couldn't latch on to feed at all when she was born. Eventually we got her seen by a very experienced lactation consultant who realised she had a posterior tt. It was snipped about 10 days later by a hospital specialist who said it was a very "meaty" tie. Lucy was about 2.5 weeks old when it was snipped and it was done in seconds and she barely noticed, went right back to sleep afterwards!

I'm interested to know about this too. My little boy has a posterior tongue tie too and we're waiting for an appointment to get it snipped.

At the moment he latches OK but tends to slip off causing me pain and making him gassy, so I'm really hoping getting it snipped will sort that out.

Thank you! I'm worried it's been too long. Even if I can get an appointment for next week she'll be 11 weeks old! I hope this doesn't make a difference. Did u notice much difference with feeding after it was done? x

My lg had this. Midwife noticed tongue tie at a few days old cos I was so sore from feeding. Went back to maternity unit to get it confirmed. Was told it was a posterior tt but only slight and couldnt b absolutely sure it would make a difference with feeding. ..We decided to get done especially as only a few days old & easier the younger they are we were told. It made a huge difference to feeding & I healed pretty quick after. It was cut and she was put on breast straight away so didnt get chance ti cry. Im glad we got it done

Yes, we had been using nipple shields as an interim measure because she couldn't latch at all, it wasn't a case of painful latch or poor milk transfer, she genuinely couldn't latch on at all. I carried on with the nipple shields for a couple of days then I moved onto starting a feed with a nipple shield and removing it and latching her on directly half way through a feed. After a couple of days of this we tried latching on directly from the beginning and that was it, no more nipple shields! Sadly I only fed her til she was 5 weeks old as I had to go into hospital and was given medication they weren't happy for me to bf on :(

This time around even though my baby is slightly tt, it hasn't affected feeding, she's latched on well since birth, I've not had a single day with sore nipples or mastitis or anything, so history doesn't always repeat itself!

I've had 2 tongue tied babies...one with a posterior and one with an anterior tie.

DD had a posterior tongue tie that was snipped at 5 days old. It wasn't detected til she was 3 days old as she was able to successfully get milk from me, it just destroyed my nipples! I'd say after around d 3-5 days after the snip I noticed it felt better - by about 10 days after, my nipples were completely healed and she'd learnt to latch properly! Posterior TT is nicknamed the 'hidden tongue tie' apparently cos it's harder to spot.

DS had an anterior tie which was quite severe - he couldn't successfully feed from me so I had to express and top up with formula. He was snipped at 6 days old but I had to travel 2.5 he's away to get it done! With him, I had to reteach him how to latch but things got better quite quickly!

The proceedure was the same for both of them. Both of them had ulcers under their tongue after the snip, which healed within about 3 days. This is the only after effect I know of and tbh don't think they had any pain/discomfort with it, plus breast milk is said to heal and soothe the ulcers anyway! It'sa very quick and easy procedure so try not to worry x x

Our bub had his PTT snipped at 12 weeks. Up until 14 weeks it is a simple procedure with very little blood supply to the area. It was recommended that I be prepared to feed him ASAP after the snip, the Dr literally did his cut, lifted him up and I immediately fed him. There was a little blood-tinged saliva afterwards but that was it.

In our LO's case, his feeding gradually improved over the next month as he got used to the new movement and using different muscles.

It has been all positive for us.

Thank you all so much for your responses! That all sounds very positive and straight forward. And glad to hear of pp whose baby was 12 weeks old getting it done, dd2 is 12wks old today and I've managed to get an appointment for 10days from now. Had such a bad feeding day yesterday (actually cried with the pain again) that I'm literally counting down the days to get this sorted. I also have a 2& 1/2- 3 hour drive to get it done but that really doesn't bother me if it fixes the problem :)
Thanks again ladies x

So, just to update this post: it's done! So glad we got it done, it has really made a difference! The lactation consultant there said I deserved a Purple Heart not a purple nipple for going through 12 weeks of misery :haha:
They could tell from across the room that she was TT'd and said afterwards that it was such a thick, meaty TT that it was as functionally restrictive as a type 1.
Thanks for all your earlier responses ladies :flower: x

We have finally got an appointment to get wesley's snipped on Saturday, can't wait! :happydance:

I'm glad its made a difference for you :)
