Pre Eclampis and HELLP Syndrome

People who have has Severe Pre-Eclampsia & HELLP -

Hi Ladies - I suffered with severe pre eclampsia and HELLP syndrome when I had my daughter in 2009. As you will know it is a horrendous thing to get but we both survived and are doing ok now.

I'm now looking at having another child with a DIFFERENT partner.

Has anyone else done this?

What are the chances of it coming back?
Has it come back for you?
Was it later or earlier than last time?
How often are you seen by a consultant/midwife?

Im with the same partner but so far it hasnt came back this pregnancy, i got it at 20 weeks last pregnancy too, iv been under consultant and midwife, saw midwife every two weeks and consultant every 3/4 weeks

So far so good for me am with the same man though and I didn't have Hellp. You will be seen very regularly and probably have aspirin/calcium to take. I'm seen weekly by the midwife and every month with the consultant at the moment.

Stalking....I had pre eclampsia last time which was discovered at 25 weeks and my daughter was delivered at 27 weeks exactly. We desperately want another baby (same partner) but I'm terrified to actually take the plunge....xx

Iv been on asprin since i found out i was pregnant, iv had extra scans etc now im seen by consultant every week but thats for a different reason, i cannot fault the care iv recieved in this pregnancy for the problems i had in my first, i delivered my first at 25 weeks sadly we lost our son through it.

I have had pree twice. With my son it set on a little later in pregnancy. Around 37 weeks. I hung out for two weeks and was induced at 38 due to increasing pressures. Baby did not tolerate induction so I had an emergency c section. BP went down to normal around 6 weeks PP.

Second pregnancy with different partner 6 years later I had pree starting at 29 weeks. Was hospitalized at 31 weeks and given an emergency section at 32 weeks. My pressures were horrible and I lost my vision for 24 completely and it was really blurry for 6 weeks PP. Around the time that my vision cleared my BP stabilized. Baby spent a month in the hospital.

Third pregnancy (my mother was not thrilled about this). Same partner as second baby. They are three years apart. I developed pregnancy induced high blood pressure and was on a healthy dose of labetelol twice daily starting at 22 weeks. I was seen weekly at this point. My High blood pressure never progressed into pree. I had a little protein in my urine but not diagnostically relevant for Pree.

There is some testing that they will do to see if you have an underlying disorder that predisposes you to pree. I think it is mthfr. Some people have had success with low dose aspirin or lovenox shots but it hasn't been proven to help. It doesn't hurt. I spent a lot of time on the preeclampsia.org website to read from other ladies in their support section to see what the rate of recurrance was and things that they did to maybe avoid it. I was terrified and obsessively took my BP while pregnant the third time. I was sure that it was going to come babk and it didn't. Every one is different. I also think it depends on what stage of HELLP that you were in and how severe your preeclampsia was as to if it will reoccur. I know that I will have a higher likelyhood of high BP later in life. I have had it with all three pregnancies last pregnancy was a different father too and still got it, I'm currently in early stages with fourth baby and wonder if I'm likely to get it four times? X

I got it last pregnancy starting at about 34 weeks and induced 38. This time I thought I had escaped it as I had low bp the entire pregnancy and then suddenly at my 37 week appointment I gained 6 pounds in a week and bp shot up. Now in early stages, have a scheduled csection at 39 weeks. Being checked and monitored constantly by dr and hospital twice a week.

I've never had pre eclampsia but I had all the symptoms a few weeks ago and they haven't been checking me regularly at all in fact I'm already a very high risk pregnancy and like you have been on aspirin from the start I was also on heparin injections til 16 weeks they had to stop them as I had a massive bleed I have loads of other issues too and for the last 3 days have had a head ache with blurred vision sickness swelling of the legs and a few flashing light with a very unwell feeling I rang the mau last night and was told it was probably a bug over the phone but no one else is ill in the house or has been so I'm still worried x

Just go straight to the hospital. Pre eclampsia can come on so quick. For me it came on litrally in hours. I was running around a field at 6pm and I was in intensive care 7 hours later!

I still have a head ache but not as bad as before dizziness is still there and feet still swollen I'm ringing my midwife in the morning you can't just go up to my hospital you have to ring first and like I say was told it was probably a bug I'm not massively impressed with the care I'm considering changing hospitals my only concern is my last son came with no pain until 20 minutes before birth and the only other hospital I could go to is a few miles away and in the town centre so not sure I would make it there if the same happened again and I need iv antibiotics due to group b strep xx

I take back all i said haha bp started to go up yesturday, glad iv made it this far though !

Oh the care at sunderland has been amazing the rest of the hospital is pretty shitty but i cannot fault my care at all on matermity x

Iv been seen by my community midwife every week for bo checks, she was who sent me to delivery suite last night x

I ain't seen my midwife for 4 weeks and the appointment I did have was cancelled and I was told to go see a midwife at the hospital which I did but they didn't check bp and the device they used to check babies heartbeat was running out of batteries so didn't even get an accurate measure of that also I had a few concerns and when I told them they just said well if you go into labour quick again ring and ambulance and leave the kids alone til someone can get there cause I can't take them to labour ward!!!! My kids are 11 9 8 & 3 I mean the oldest 2 would be ok for half an hour but not the youngest and I'm appalled that a health professional would even suggest that!! I've tried to get in touch with my midwife this morning but had no joy xx

Hiagain just seen this, i have been admitted to hospital, they cant Control my bp one minute its so high the next its back down and perfect so cant give me labetalol yet, the babys currently dropping below the 10th centile again so they have gave me a second lot of steriods and are going to deliver me in the next 2 weeks !

If you could i would transfer your care, that is disgusting, especially suggesting you leave the kids who in the right mind would do that x
