I am SO nervous about developing this again.
First a little background...I had 3 children with my (now)Ex-husband.
My only complication was my first baby (son) was born early, they said my blood pressure was a bit elevated and it probably caused my water to break.
After that relationship was over I was in another relationship and ended up pregnant. The whole relationship was stressful. I ended up developing pre-eclampsia at 33 weeks. I'm guessing it was severe right from the get-go because I was admitted to the hospital immediately after my Dr appointment and I was in there for a week. After being on strict bed rest in the hospital and taking two different kinds of medications my blood pressure kept spiking and they induced me at 34 weeks. (This was 5 years ago)
I have since been on blood pressure medication as it runs in my family.
I am now in an amazing relationship, and we are preggers!!! But, given my history with pre-eclampsia and my current hypertension we are both very nervous.
I also heard that because a lot of mom's develop pre-e in a first pregnancy, that it sort of counts as a first if the father is different. Which would be true in my case.
I am finding it hard to be fully excited for fear of what my Dr will say.
If my blood pressure is bad, could he suggest to terminate the pregnancy?
Oh! And to add to the stress, I am 36 years old. Does my age contribute to this issue?

We are both pretty nervous....any and all replies are appreciated. :help:

Hello darling! I'm 35 and in my second pregnancy.
I developed pre eclampsia with my first at 38 weeks and was induced pretty much straight away.
I'm pregnant again from the same dad, but was in hospital 3 days last week due to high blood pressure. I'm now taking Labetalol and that has kept it under control since, but my numbers seem to be getting higher again even though I have the tablets.
It's so scary and my whole pregnancy I have been scared to develop it again, but it's a waiting game as you have no idea what will happen. I got steroid shots last week, just in case, but every week added is another bonus.
Have you got any meds at the moment and are they working? As long as they can keep it under control you should be ok for now and just see how it goes.
I assume you're goin to be under consultant led care, so see what he/she says.
The scary feeling won't go away though unfortunately :(

Fingers crossed all goes well for you! X

firstly CONGRATULATIONS now breathe.............

try and enjoy the pregnancy as much as you can, difficult I know I'm nearly 27 weeks in and can honesty say I've been expecting the worse from day 1.

As far as I know your chances of developing pre-e increase with a new partner, however this does not automatically mean you will def develop it. If you do they say it is milder and later in preg (my case excluded). Having had a prem baby already you are semi prepared for an early baby and the NICU environment.

I don't think age is an issue as such bit
if you have a history of hypertension you will be closely monitored which you WILL find to be a relief. I don't think any medical professional can recommend termination, that is a hugely personal decision they will advise you try and not overdo it an stay as 'stress free' as you can.

I did not return to work from my last pregnancy and found this hugely helped keep me well so far this time around, not everyone is able to not work tho.

Sounds like you've met a great man, get him to take as much pressure and tasks from you as he can, it will all be worth is when you get to meet your new baby. Congratulations again xx
