Hi girls,

I was just curious if any of you found out why you delivered pre-term? I just went into labour after a normal uncomplicated pregnancy and just a few hours after a routine visit to my midwife where everything was normal.
No reason was found for why it happened, and I'll probably only find out if I have another and the extra monitoring I'll have shows something up.
I thought I'd feel better about it once I knew why, but when no reason was found I was really upset.

Mine was all through bleeding which went onto placenta abruptions, they then found out I had blood clotting problems which I only got tested for near to delivery of my ds.

No reason found here either. My delivery notes were rechecked in this pregnancy in order to sort out what roads to take in this pregnancy. All they could narrow it down to was an unknown infection that couldn'tbepicked up by the tests the hospital did at the time.

The consultant did say in this pregnancy they would test me every few weeks, but there is still no guarantee that they can pick up everything.

Part of me feel lost, I want to understand why, but the books been left wide open.

I wondered if we'd find the answer to Alexs arrival in this pregnancy, but with me being a lot further on now, I don't think we will.

All I know is I had an extremely awful (pretty life changing ) week prior to her birth, it's possible that stress caused it.

I had SCH's in all 3 of my pregnancies, 1st- caused spotting at 12 weeks but no other probs, 9lb 2oz 42+1 lil boy 2nd-m/c, 3rd- heavy bleeds throughout, spotting/blood flow every day, membranes ruptured at 25+6 and lil Leo was born at 28+3 after I went into labour.
So I'm pretty much prone to having SCH's unfortunately :(

I wasn't given a firm reason either, I did have an infection in my membranes however this can be from going into preterm labor or the cause of it. I think it was likely because of it, which scares me even more...as I was in labor for three days before delivering. One of which I wasn't in the hospital for, the second of which they almost sent me home..

No idea here. The only possible thing they thought it could of been was a water infection

I had sch in early pregnancy too. My daughter was also born with a congenital problem which caused a build up of fluid - this is likely to be the cause, but it's not absolute.

my waters have partially gone down to 34% on Tues and less today had a womb swob to see if infected inside, also on antibiotics 4 times a day for 5 days and had my first steroid injection tonight going back for my second tomo morning at 8 am then having my third at 8pm sat even then same again on sunday and then another scan mon more blood tests and mointoring to tell me what happens next. Have been told that they would like to keep him inside till 34 weeks and if he manages to stay put at 34 weeks they will deliver due to not enough protection within the remaining aminotic fluids. fx that I stop leaking they cant see a tear so think its a small hole causing the problem and they are aware i am leaking, just got to take things easy and if in doubt go into hospital asap, much scarier than my other son who arrived at 35/36 weeks as this little one has been showing small till recently x

They couldn't find any reason that I went into pre-term labor. They ran test after test after test for 3 days before I finally gave birth to my LO, and still couldn't find anything -- no infection, nothing! :(

It's kind of scary.

You must be delighted / relieved to be so much further on tho :) well done!

I also wondered about stress in my case too - didn't have anything terrible happen but I was very much overdoing things. My GP said he thought not, and as infection and placental problems were definitely ruled out the possibility of cervical incompetence was raised for me.

I had a bit of stress too before I went into pre-term labor. OH and I had just moved to Oklahoma temporarily so he could go to school, and things were not going as planned AT ALL -- the school closed down the day he was supposed to start, and so much more piled on top of that. It was a mess. :nope:

Think my GP kept verrrry quiet about my visit two days prior to Alexs birth. I wont go into detail but i was pretty hysterical and not in a good frame of mind and all he did was sign me off for 2 days

I think for me it was a case of she was fully cooked, she was massive and had no breathing difficultys and allthough couldent latch onto the boob till she was 6 weeks she was fine with a bottle.

We've no idea why. Poppy was born at 34 +2 after SROM. I insisted I was monitored more closely with my 2nd pregnancy, and had cervical scans to check if my cervix was incompetant. Although there was some shortening, it doesn't appear that that was the problem, and I went on to have Florrie at 36 +4.

Ive had 3 pre term labours. One at 24+2, one at 24 weeks, that started at 23 weeks and one at 26+6 that started at 26+3.

Theres no reason for any of mine :nope: Waters didnt break, no PE, No infection....although, with my 2nd, I did develop a nasty infection AFTER I had went into labour at 23 weeks (had him at 24)...no nothing as to why I went into labour early THREE times!!!

With my 3rd-my little miracle Katie, the only thing I did differently with her, was I took progesterone supplements called cyclogest.
Any woman who goes in to labour at whatever gestation has a drop in progesterone to help establish labour-so I have read. And this is my viewing/reason for why I may have went into prem labour...after all I managed an extra 3 weeks with Katie, I think I just needed MORE progesterone as the pregnancy progresses and next time I will make sure my consultant actually tests for the amount in my system x

^I believe you on that SK, I think there's something in that theory.

For me it was a suspected UTI but the midwives weren't sure.
I'm going to make sure I get checked more often for baby number 2!

I had a slight bacterial infection (with no symptoms) and it supposedly caused the mucous plug to weaken, come out, and start me into labor.

My waters broke at exactly 31 weeks for no reason. we arrived at hospital and LO was in distress so had c-section within 10 mins of drs decision.
When LO arrived he had the cord round his neck 4 times and a true knot in 1 end:wacko: I was told this had nothing to do with my waters breaking. But lucky they did because without that we would of never known of his distress and he wouldn't have made it threw labour or for much longer.
The midwife said someone was looking over us.
When I went to see the consultant he said there was a condition where some women produce extra long cords but mine was never measured:shrug:So not sure if that is me, no infection was found.
I feel very lucky to have my perfect angel baby:cloud9::cloud9:
