Pregnacare and Sickness

Thanks so much for your advice, I really appreciate it as I have no idea what I'm doing!

My friend mentioned that her midwife told her to take vit D tablets alongside folic acid but she said the first time she did, she miscarried. She knows it's probably just a coincidence but she's kinda put the spooks up me about taking anything except FA now. I'm probably being daft but this is our first and I'm terrified of something bad happening.

Lily the Vit D will NOT have had anything to do with your friends miscarriage - if you want the other side of the story - I was only taking Folic acid not full preg vitamins with my first 2 pregnancies and I miscarried both of those. For my DD's pregnancy I had a supplement with Vit D in it from the start and had a healthy child

Lack of vitamin D may (not will!) cause health issues for you and your baby - its much better to take the supplement than not UNLESS you are eating LOADS of the food fortified in Vit D and those which occur naturally in vit D and spending all your time dancing about naked in the full summer sun  in which case you probably dont need it!

The NHS is finally waking up to the importance of vit d -especially in pregnant women and young children.

Ok that's great advice, thank you. Do you think waiting 6 days till I meet my midwife will hurt or should I go and buy some vit D after work today? xx

No it wont hurt hun - speak to your mw to give you peace of mind. Have a look at this from the NHS website. https://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/vitamins-minerals/Pages/Vitamin-D.aspx

All mw and GP's should have had info from the Dept of Health about vit D importance but you can see from MummyClo's thread on Vit D that not all of them are heeding it yet!

I've suspected that the pregnacare was contributing to the nausea for a while now, but thought that this was because I often take it in the morning on an empty stomach. So today I thought I'd take it in the afternoon....not very successful! 1 hour after taking it I had to dash off to be sick!
