Hi all. I don't know if any of you remember me posting about my first doc visit at 8 weeks and not seeing the yolk sac (plus other stuff I was worried about), but I went to my 2nd appt and it was the worst visit yet.

My OBGYN said something doesn't look right. At 9 weeks, the baby is suppose to look like a tadpole. Ironically, when I saw it, the baby looked like a frog. Anyway, she pointed to this bump in the image saying it looks like some kind of abnormality. She wasn't sure. She wanted me to see a specialist, a maternal fetal medicine doc. They have better technology there also, so you can see a better image. I went to the specialist. They did see the yolk sac, heartbeat is strong, and the baby is a good size. She said she usually doesn't see pregnant women this early on, so it's hard to tell or say what's going on. She did not see any abnormalities, BUT, unfortunately, the sac is in a confined spot. It's not taking up most of the uterus. The baby hardly has any room to move. The specialist said it could be old blood in the uterus preventing the sac to expand. If this doesn't resolve itself, the pregnancy will not continue. :(

I'm suppose to see her in 2 weeks. What my husband and I are worried about is not a miscarriage, b/c of course, that's just nature taking its course. We are worried that if this pregnancy does continue, will this baby have damage done due to the confined space of the sac and not knowing till at 20 weeks when it's too late for us to make a decision of terminating the pregnancy or not. I know it sounds selfish and I'm sure some of you don't believe in aborting, but we do not want to face a burden for the rest of our lives and it would not be fair to our son either. All the attention will be drawn away from him.

I was such a wreck during that appt. I am a little better now, but time can only tell and there are more things to worry about.

Sorry to hear. I have no advice but hope it resolves and all is fine

Oh dear, just wanted to say that my thoughts are with you. There probably are alot of people against abortion, I am too, except when its for medical reasons. You have to think of your children that are older first, heartbreaking as it is. Hugs xxxx

So sorry to hear this hun I wish I could do or say anything to make it better xxx

Sorry to hear this hun. I'm sure with what's going on they will scan you more regularly or at very least again before 20weeks and discuss continuation of the pregnancy or termination for medical reasons if that's an option they think needs to be offered. Do what you think/feel is right and don't let anyone judge you only you and your partner are in this situation and know what's best.
X

Are you UK based hun? If so - they will scan you fortnightly until they're SURE there's no abnormality - if they try and fob you off then just insist! My SIL had a twin pregnancy with one baby who had severe abnormalities, she was offered termination several times. She chose not to opt for it, personally I felt it was the wrong choice (although I would never have said) she ended up risking the healthy baby and causing severe distress to her older two kids when her son was born and died at 29 weeks. I'm so sorry you're going through this... It's everyone's worst nightmare 😢 fingers crossed it's just a strange beginning to a healthy pregnancy!

I hope all works out. I'm wondering why did the doctors see too different images?

I'm so sorry. Please keep us posted. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I don't know if this helps, but there is no more tail on the baby after 9 weeks it doesn't look like a tadpole anymore and it actually starts to look like a baby - big head, torso, two little arms, and 2 little legs. So I don't know why your obgyn would say that.

I am glad that the specialist was able to solve the yolk sac mystery - it had to be there somewhere. Fingers crossed your gestational sac catches up with the growth of the baby.

Hopefully the specialist will keep a close eye on things and see you regularly so you don't end up in the predicament you are concerned about.

The specialist had better ultrasound equipment than her OB and can see details more clearly.

So sorry your going through this hun, I wish you all the best and really hope everything will sort it's self out and baby will be a very healthy one.

As for the tadpole theory, I went for a private scan at 7weeks & 4days and baby was too little and just looked like a blob, I also went for emergency scan at 8 weeks & 4 days due to bleeding and I must say the scan pic I've got my baby looks like a frog I'll put a pic up for you but I even said to my OH he/she looks a little like a frog lol and the nurse said all was okay xx
