Hello Ladies,

I am not from the US but I think you ladies will be able to help me. I know that it is part of early pregnancy checks that a smear is taken in America. I am English and it is not part of the process they only do it every 3 years and not if pregnant so not many people on UK forums have any experience of this.

I actually live in Germany and they do more regular testing hence why I discovered this.

I had a smear taken just before I found out I was pregnant. The result came back as Pap IIId and positive for HPV so it is abnormal pre cancerous cells. I have had this result before but then it got better again.

The doctor was not very positive and said I should consider termination. I feel he is over reacting. Everything I read states that it will not progress any faster with pregnancy and can actually improve with the birth

Can anyone share their own experiences with me?

Thanks in advance.

Hi how worrying , I had an experience not dissimilar to yours . Had pap and two weeks later found out I was pregnant . My results came back with abnormal cells and was to go for a follow up in three months . In Ireland they don't do apps while pg either so I had to wit till after baby was born and after all the worry it cleared up and I got a normal result .

Its a huge decision to have to make , if I were you if seek a second opinion . Good luck with it :)

Hey I'm German! I went through pregnancy with Cervical Cancer and was Cancer and HPV free less than a year after birth.

First of all, your doctor is a COMPLETE idiot. Not kidding :nope:

PAP III or even IIID is not cancer, and not concerning. I had PAP III for 5 years, 2009 I was at stage 4 and only 2010, after a miscarriage it became pre cervical cancer. My miscarriage was caused by a PAP smear and following biopsy. My body did not naturally miscarry the full pregnancy so I was given a pill too. I never fully recovered from this unnatural miscarriage, my hormones were a mess and I was diagnosed with all sorts of illnesses. Eventually CIN3, CIN means there actually are cancerous cells and I had to have areas of my cervix removed. We had an accident and I fell pregnant shortly after. I spoke to several doctors. Planned Parenthood and one nurse were all for an abortion, I did not have insurance then having just moved to California, so I was 8 weeks along by the time I could see a specialist and a regular OB. Both could not believe what PP had advised me to do and even made a phone call.
They were positive my pregnancy will be just fine because with HPV and abnormal cells on the cervix a pregnancy actually works in your favor.
What happens is this:
1. Pregnancy is rejuvenating and can reverse illness. There are severeal studies about this. Google pregnancy rejuvenating effect.
2. Abnormal Cells from HPV progress in a very sluggish manner. You have plenty of time to finish a pregnancy and seek treatment.
3. After birth your cervix sheds cells, also abnormal ones, which can reduce or even entirely remove abnormal cells.

I haven't had problems with HPV or cancerous cells since giving birth. Be sure your partner is clear of course. My son was from a new partner, now my husband and I feel that helped because my Ex was promiscuous, which is why I left.

If you don't mind, could you DM me the name of the doctor? I would like to let the German Health Board know of the nonsense he is spreading. God knows how many women he caused damage..he needs to be stopped.
I have a science background and work with La Leche League Germany in case you'd like to know how I will contact German Authorities. Of course no angry phone calls or such things, all very professional.

All the best to you and your baby! If you have any further questions feel free to ask :)

Don't make rash decisions. Seems like your doctor is indeed overreacting. Seek second opinion for sure. X

Hi I had an abnormal result before trying for baby 1. Had baby 1 then another smear. Had to have letz procedure and came back all fine. Had baby #2 and clear results ever since.

It can take years for the cells to change but pregnancy can make it worse due to hormones.

Look at jo's trust page- it saved my sanity!
