Just wondering for those of you that premake your bottles and then heat them up ready when needed, what to you do at night? Do you go downstairs and get one from the fridge, heat it up and go back up or is there a trick I am missing out on?!

I have been sleeping downstairs with my LO as I had a ECS and our bed is really low which meant it was really difficult for me to get in and out of. Our sofa has recliners so it was much more comfy to sleep on there and meant while I was recovering, I didn't have to go up and down the stairs, but it did mean that I could just go to the kitchen & heat her milk up. Now I am wondering what is the easiest way for when I go back upstairs to sleep in bed?!

:flower:

My OH gets the night bottles while i settle LO, he heats the water first tries to get it as hot as possible (because of the 70 degree thing) then adds the milk then cools it down. We dont make up feeds because MW told us not to. So we just do each bottle as she needs it, shes in a good routine though so we roughly know when shes due.

We're very lazy lol!! We buy cartons of milk to use at night, they can be served at room temp, so all you need to do it tip it into a sterilised bottle and hey presto....done!!
When we go to bed we take the following things with us, so we don't actually have to move out of bed! and now she is sleeping through, we use the milk for the morning feed and have another snooze after!

To take:
Bib x 2
Muslin
Sterilised bottle
Milk carton
Sterilised scissors
Vest
Sleep suit

and then by the bed / moses basket we have nappies, wipes, nappy bags etc

How lazy?! hehe

I premake bottles. Once LO wants her bottles I make the cold and horrid trip downstairs and pop the bottle in the microwave for 50 seconds. I make sure I give it an extremely good shake/mix afterwards to avoid hotspots, I basically swill it round and round the entire time it takes me to get back to the bedroom just to be safe. We used to use a bottle warmer/and boil the ketytle but LO screamed blue murder so we use microwave at night x

My doctor said it was okay to feed babies room temperature formula but if it gives them diarrhea then to warm it up. I just keep a Brita pitcher in my room for bottles! :flower:

i used to make the bottles up put them in the fridge and then just heat them in boiling water in a plastic jug for 5 min. You have to use up any pre made feeds within 24 hours. x

I have been wondering the same thing, as only just heard that bottles should now be made 'fresh as you go' with ds1 & ds2 you could make a load & use as needed...Its all changed  Makes you wonder how these older children ever survived!!!

So glad to come across your thread

Me & OH used to sleep downstairs so that it was easier/quicker to get LO's bottles ready without him getting distressed. We're back upstairs now so one of us changes him, whilst the other gets the bottle. We put ours (5oz feeds) in the microwave (850w) for 35s and then shake the bottle well to rid of any hotspots.

We did it several ways. First we kept the bottle in the fridge, made the dreaded trip downstairs and warmed with a jug of boiling water.

Then we progressed to storing the bottle in a cool bag upstairs (I wasn't too keen on that tbh as it didn't seem cold enough), and warming with a bottle warmer. Finally, we went back to downstairs and used the microwave.

I guess it depends on what's worse for you - getting out of bed or waiting a bit longer. After LO started sleeping through, DH revealed that he had one of those mini fridges in the loft - that would've been perfect for storing nightfeeds. If I could've also had a microwave next to the bed, that would've been the ideal combination!

with my baby i bring a bottle off boiled water up stairs with the milk powder seperate container then use the bottle warmer when she wakes, but a found the sound off the warmer relax her so much she would go back to sleep.

I invested in a Lindam Night and Day feeding system. Best thing EVER in the early months! It has a cooler box that fits 2 bottles, with an ice pack in it, that keeps bottles cold up to 8 hours. And this sits on a base that has a warmer too, takes 3 minutes to heat up a bottle, so just enough time for a nappy change. So never had to even leave the bedroom lol

I premake and for the night feed I go downstairs, boil the kettle (only ever fill to the minimum level to speed it up!), pop the refrigerated bottle in boiled water in a bowl, bring it back up and let it heat while I change LO.

I don't really mind running downstairs at all though and LO is a slow feeder and needs a good ten mins winding/being upright after so night feeds are quite a long event - the trip down the stairs helps wake me up for it!

We've borrowed my aunts little fridge and have a bottle warmer by the bed. I make up 3 bottles before we go to bed then pop them straight in the fridge, then warm them while I'm changing little man. We did have the fridge in our room but it was too loud for my OH so now its on the landing, I normally still have to pee in the middle of the night so I go and then bring the bottle in with me. I landed up on crutches for xmas so it really was a god send not having to go downstairs to sort out his bottle at 3am! I also have a plastic box by my bed that has spare vest, babygro, muslins, bibs and cot sheets incase he needs a complete change so I can do it without waking my OH.x

We have our bottles for the night in a cooler bag with ice packs to keep them plenty cold. We bring our bottle warmer up too so that we don't have to trek downstairs in the middle of the night.

Omg, thank you! That is my perfect solution, I have just ordered one online!! :happydance::thumbup:

Thanks for all the ideas! I don't want to get up partly to being lazy, lol but our dog sleeps on the landing & as soon as we go out of the bedroom, he thinks its playtime & if we try & go back to bed he whines at the door which would wake our LO :dohh:

Ps. I'm glad it's not just me that doesn't want to be going downstairs in the middle of the night!! Nice to see that others have transformed their bedrooms into makeshift kitchens!!:haha:
