Thursday afternoon, I had a dr. appt for a pretty routine ultrasound. During the visit, my ob noticed that my cervix was short and already dialated 4 cm. I hadn't even felt any contractions. She sent me directly to the hospital, and I have been here since. I will be 34 weeks tomorrow. The doctors have given me steroids to mature the baby's lungs and some medicine to slow/stop the contractions. I have maxed out at 5 cm. I know that every extra day I am pregnant is good for the baby, but being stuck in the hospital on bedrest is a lot like being in prison. Was anyone else in the hospital for an extended period? How did you pass the time? I am also the mother of a two year old, and I miss her so bad it hurts.

oh hun, so sorry your stuck in hospital but if its safest for you and baby then its for the best. whos with your 2 yr old? id try to make sure that you got them to bring her to you each day . otherwise some good books and make sure you keep your internet credit fresh so you can get online and distract yourself

My mother-in-law is keeping my daughter. Someone has brought her to see me everyday for a few hours so far. Today my MIL called and said she thought my little one was too tired to make the hour drive to see me today. Luckily, I do have my laptop. This site has helped me kill some time.

I spent a week in hospital before my DD was born, although I thankfully wasn't confined to bed. DH got a wireless internet thingy for me, that made a huge difference. And I made friends with the other girls in my room who were also on 'long term arrest' as I called it. I was supposed to be in for 4 weeks but DD had other ideas. She was born at 35 weeks less a day and is just fine :)

You poor soul. I hope that little babba stays in there for as long as possible. It must be so hard being away from your lo too. Do you have skype on your laptop? Could you speak to her even if she can't make it today.

Have a search for free online games - I bet you'll find things to keep you amused too.

I had my third daughter at 34 weeks exactly following nearly a weeks stay in hospital. I remember how solitary and frightening it was and how much I missed my other girls. But she was a real fighter, breathed fine and within a couple of days would wake for a feed so I could breastfeed her beautifully. Despite being under 4lb she came home in 10 days. Try not to be too frightend by the prospect of her coming early. She'll be fine. One thing I with say is that nothing prepared me for how small she was. They are significantly smaller at this stage than a 40 weeker, however perfect. Good luck.x

I was in the Hospital for 6 long weeks. My son was born on 3-18-11.He was a strong little being born at only 30 weeks gestation. My husband brought my son to see me on a regular basis. But it was very difficult not being able to take him the way wanted.I had my laptop, books, games and vistors that helped it go by faster. On occation they would allow my husband son to wheel me down to get fresh air.Hang in there it will easier!

Thanks ladies!
Friday, the hospital finally discharged me and sent me home. Thank goodness. I can't imagine staying for 6 weeks. I am still 5 cm dilated, and I'll be 35 weeks Tuesday. I have a few contractions randomly. I wonder how long it will take before she decides to make her debut. My doctor said they would not stop labor if it happened now.
