I went to the OBGYN today, and she wants me to get on Rx prenatals rather than OTC, claiming they are made with better ingredients, and better formulated, She sent me home with several samples, and if they are at all even just a little bit better, paying for them is not an issue at all.
My question is if anyone has experience with any of them? I've read a bit online, and seems the prescription vitamins can make you feel sick? The ones she sent me home with are:
Concept OB
O-CAL F.A.
Nestabs
Gesticare

Anyone ever taken them while TTC? Or while pregnant? Side effects? Anything?

I'm not sure about any of those brands, but my doctor prescribed Prenatal Plus and I haven't had any problems with them. My doc said to take on an empty stomach and don't eat until at least an hour after taking it as long as it didn't make me sick for better absorption. I've taken them on an empty stomach and with food before and did fine both ways. Hope that helps!

Not sure if its the same thing, but my doctor gave me OB with dha. Its two pills- a blue and an orange. I feel fine after taking them; never had any side effects. I also take them before bed, which probably helps.

My ob gave me the the prescription but also said that I can do over the counter they are just as good. I filled the prescriptin and OMG it was 150 I have really really good insurance too...i was shocked...went wi th one a day with dha

The only difference I found between the perscription and otc was a slight difference in floic acid, so otc's are fine I think. 150 is def too much for a script! Insurances don't cover nearly as much as they used to unfortunately. :(

I take Preg-Vit with 5 mg of Folic Acid. There are two pills, one you take in the am, the other at night. My doc said that when you taken them all at once, the combination of vitamins and minerals with actually block absorption of each other and you don't get as much. Also, when I was pregnant (mc), she said it would make me less likely to get sick from them.

It's about $45 per month for the prescription. My medical coverage covers almost all of it.

BUT, here is what I do...this maybe be totally stupid, but in the first couple weeks of my cycle I take regular cheap OTC prenatals. Then, from ovulation onward I take the prescriptions vits. Once AF hits, I go back to the OTCs. I don't know if it really makes a difference or anything, but if I am possibly pregnant I want to take the best possible ones.
