Hi,

I'm currently 15 + 4 weeks pregnant with my 2nd pregnancy and had my first at 27 weeks due to a short cervix. 0.7cm's. baby girl is now 3 and perfectly fine x

I'm due to see a foetal medicine team this week at Medway hospital in Chatham, kent England who research the vaginal pessary to put round the cervix (rather than a cerclage) to hold the weight of the pregnancy.

Has anyone had this or know of anyone whose had this for a short cervix.

Thanks :)

I personally haven't heard of it, but theres some good research and its on this NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/news/2012/04april/Pages/pessary-device-postpones-premature-births.aspx

I had a cervical pessary after going into ptl at 20 weeks. Because of contractions I couldn't get the cerclage. I was the first at my fetal medicine dr office to get one. My cervical length at shortest was also 0.7cm then went to 1.2 after getting it placed if I remember right. I also used prometrium suppositories. It kept my baby girl from coming until 25w5d but I also had contractions and ended up with an emcs due to partial placental abruption.

Anyways it just looked like a rubber donut lol. The first couple of days my cervix felt bruised but after that I couldn't even feel it. I feel I wouldn't have gotten as far as I did without it. I hope you make it farther along than me but I had other complications that ultimately led me to have to deliver so early. Please keep us updated!

Congratulations, I've not had the pessary, I honestly don't know if I'd use it, I had a cervical stitch at 18wk and had baby at 36wk but like
Baby maybe 917- said it worked and got her to 25wk so I guess it's worth a try, anything is worth a try to keep our babies in

Good luck and keep updated try read incompotant cervix in the gestational complications in pregnancy forums it's very long but there's plenty of advice

I had a 26 weeker due to a short cervix (.5cm at 19 weeks and continued to shorten) and at 19 weeks I got a rescue McDonald cerclage. Pessaries are a little trickier - they are not used much where I am from. For my second pregnancy I will be considering the TVCIC cerclage or the TAC.
