progesterone and af - advice please

Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone out there who takes progesterone could give me some advice.

I am 11dpo and bfn. I am taking progesterone suppositories (400mg daily). My luteal phase is usually 6-8 days so he progesterone has extended my luteal phase which is what I wanted. My fs told me that I must taking progesterone until af. But won't the progesterone stop af coming? Or will af come anyway? I'm feeling a bit confused about all of this!!!!

Hey Silarose, I went through the same with my dr. two cycles ago. She said that usually women will get their af even while taking progesterone yet I didn't and went to day 21 before taking a blood test and had bfn confirmed, stopped taking the progesterone and two days later af arrived.

When I spoke with my dr. about it after, she said that she had never seen that happen, that usually if a woman does not get her period then there is a chance she is pg. So. I know this isn't an answer really, just to say that I went through the same thing.

I had read all over the place that if you stay on it, af is delayed, but like your dr. mine really did seem to have direct experience with the opposite.

I haven't had AF while taking progesterone and my cycle was definitely delayed. I usually stop taking it after I get negative blood tests and AF always arrives a few days later. I am not sure if AF will actually come or not while on progesterone, but as reallyready said, there are some Drs. who say that. Good luck!

Hiya

I'm now 13dpo and bfn. Feel like stopping the prog as I want to get going with my next cycle. Have to wait till doctors on Tue though. Does anyone know what will happen on Tue - will he give me a blood test and if it is negative I will then be able to stop the progesterone?

that's what happened for me, silarose. i took a beta on dpo 21 and my progesterone was at 6 so i stopped taking and 2 days later got af.

but do wait to stop taking until after you see doc because day 13 is not day 15.

just saw a friend yesterday with twins and one implanted a few days earlier than the other. the difference between pg and not pg can be just a matter of a few days, so hold out a few more. good luck!

My Dr. perscribed progest. supplements for me because my body wasn't producing much on its own...and I would end up with AF showing up every 14 days. Since taking the pregesterone, My cycles have lengthened out, and I usually begin AF while still taking the progesterone.
