(I posted this in 1st Trimester, but reposting it here because I think this is a more suitable place! Sorry.)

Hey ladies. I am currently 5 and a half weeks pregnant. I had a miscarriage 6 months ago, and according to my charts I have a luteal phase defect. So, after doing some research after my m/c, I came to the conclusion low progesterone was likely (especially since our baby had a strong heartbeat one day before m/c).

As I'm once again experiencing a lot of cramping at night, and otherwise symptomless, this pregnancy I want to use OTC progesterone cream. I ordered some Pro-Gest, but it won't be here for a day. However, I kind of freaked out and used the stuff I already had - Now Natural Progesterone Cream. That was bad, because it has Retinyl Palmitate in it (oops... I used 3 pumps total, split between two uses).

I'm going to go out first thing in the morning to the health food store and buy Pro-Gest so that I don't have to use this one again. But, my question is.. how long can you go (safely) without inducing miscarriage? I'm nervous about not taking it first thing after I wake up. It could take a couple extra hours... Ugh, I really screwed myself, didn't I?

Thank you for any help...

Sorry for your loss hun. :hugs:

Why don't you get a blood test done to find out if you actually do have low progesterone? That way you'll know if you actually need to be forking out the money for the cream and putting up with the mess. No point if you don't need to.

As for it inducing miscarriage, progesterone support is more likely to do the opposite - i.e. if someone on progesterone support were to lose their baby, they'd be less likely to know about it because a lot of the time, though not always, the progesterone would maintain the pregnancy. I had to use progesterone after I had IVF earlier in the year and was told to stop when I reached 10 weeks as that's when the placenta takes over, though some Drs say to continue for the whole of the 1st trimester.

Hope that helps hun.

I too suspected that my progesterone was low leading to my mmc in June so I requested a blood test to check at my first appt. Dr called this week and said levels were within normal limits and no need to supplement. I like the other poster would suggest getting the blood test so you know for sure.
