So me and hubby have been ttc for a year now without success. My cycles are pretty irregular (38-42 days) but I thought I was ovulating as using a cbfm which shows peaks and get sore bb's around the same time, not much ewcm though. I've not temped last few cycles but when I did it showed a shift so thought all was ok. However went for "day 21 bloods" but obv went 7 days after my peak on cbfm as don't actually ovulate by cd21. The drs rang today said fsh, lh is normal but progesteone needs repeating. I asked what the number was but she said it didn't say just needs repeating?!?
I'm in such a stress am worried all this time I've not actually been ovulating or something is wrong, what could be causes for a repeat and is it possible to get a peak but not actually ovulate?!? I get AF 13-14 days after peak so was assuming all this time I was ovulating. I'm going to start temping again from tomorrow but have to wait until next Friday for drs review am so stressed any advice greatly appreciated x

Hi, I am not sure how the cbfm works as I don't use it, but I know that with opk's you can get a positive and not ovulate. Your body can hear up to o and then not or it could be postponed. The only way to know for sure is if you temp or by blood test.

If your blood test was done too soon after ovulation then the number would be lower. I would not worry too much. I know that's easier said than done! :) Hugs!!!! So I am guessing that they want to retest in case you ovulated later. I would call and ask why they want to retest just to ease your mind!! Keep us posted!

Hi baby_nurse,

This ttc malarky is no easy feat is it. Maybe if they couldn't give you a number they messed the test up in the lab, or lost the result, so need to redo it?

It sounds like if you are getting a peak and backing that up with a temperature rise then you are almost certainly ovulating. (You can get a peak and not ov-your body can gear up and have the release of hormones prior to ov, that the cbfm reads, and then doesn't go through with actually releasing the egg. However 3 high temperatures or more shows that you have indeed ovulated). Perhaps you had a below par or border-line ovulation that month (apparently not uncommon for us all to have from time to time) and so they want to double check it's a one off.

Anyway here are the levels I was given as a guideline when I went in for similar tests;

Day 21 progesterone bloods levels; less than 10, no ovulation ..... 10-17, ovulation occurred but progesterone too low for mature uterine lining, so even with a good embryo there wouldn't be implantation ....17-23, ovulation occurred and a good embryo would implant, but the lining is still not mature enough and so result would be very early loss (possibly undetected as loss would probably happen at time of period) .....over 25 is considered 'safe', and there is no too high a level (I've heard of one person having 98nmol/L).

If it's found that you do have low progesterone there are things they can do to help with this.

Good Luck baby_nurse

Thank you for your replies. I was a bit annoyed as rang back to ask for the actual results but they couldn't even give me a number for the progesterone...which makes me think they've lost the result or messed it up somehow (this is what my friend said).
However it wouldn't surprise me if my progesterone was low as I don't seem to have a good strong O. I get twinges and a temp shift but not much EWCM.... makes me wonder if my body isn't quite gearing up somehow.
I'll try not to panic (hard!) as reading on here, even if it is low there is lots that can be done to help (clomid etc) so I know it's not the end of the world, just so stressful!

Yeah it does sound like they've messed up somewhere...

I know it's so hard not to stress isn't it. I feel exactly the same hun....suddenly life is filled with what ifs...... We've been trying for 19months, honestly never thought we'd be in this situation. We conceived after 14months and lost our little one at 11weeks 5days in April :-(

Still holding out hope it'll happen one day, but it's so hard watching all our friends with their bumps and babies.

If it's any consolation I typically get loads of EWCM, but my best friend has never seen it and has conceived 5 times with no issues, so maybe it's not a great indicator after all... (I know it's more to make the EWCM you do have more 'fluid' rather than to increase quantity, but have you tried benylin? Also if you find you're progesterone levels are fine have you thought about trying preseed?) xx

I am gearing up to take this test but CD21 is only 4 days past ovulation. Should I wait a couple more days till 7DPO? I just want the results to be accurate. I OV late this month.

Maplesugar - yes you should take the test when you are 7dpo, not at Day21. They only say Day21 because that is 7dpo for the 'average' cycle of 28days. Personally I have had my Day21 blood test somewhere around CD30 before as I have longer cycles. GL!

Thanks! I have just re-scheduled the date. I hope the results are good.

Took the test today. Results should be in a couple of days. So glad that I have this site!
