Have any of you ladies had experience with abnormal uterine bleeding & provera?
For longer than I can remember i've had backwards periods (bleeding for most of the month and then getting 4 to *maybe* 6 or 7 days break) and after searching for longer than i'd care to admit to find a gyno that I was comfortable with, I finally found one (in sydney, 3 hours from me) who ordered appropriate testing to figure out my problems.
He confirmed PCOS from bloodwork and ultrasound results, pap smear was normal (WOOT) but my endometrial lining was too thick (20mm) so he sent me a script for Provera 10mg which I was to take 2x daily for 10 days to induce a period and shed out my thick lining.
I was down to super light/vague spotting a day or two before I began the provera which was nice, and it ceased entirely on day 2 of provera which was even nicer. I took it for the prescribed 10 days and my last dose was on Sunday July 19th and AF showed up on Sunday July 26th. The first couple of days were average, but on Tuesday all hell broke loose. The flood gates were blown into oblivion and my uterus took over my entire life. I've never bled so much. Going through a super tampon every half hour to 2 hours was brutal. And it was both day and night, I ended up sleeping in the spare bedroom for a few nights so I wouldn't keep waking DH up when I got up every hour to 2 hours to change and clean myself up.
Saturday night just gone it started to slow down, and yesterday it became quite light and I stupidly allowed myself to think it was stopping. Today is CD10 and it's still here. Although it is manageable now (as in, i'm changing every 4-6 hours rather than what felt like every 4-6 minutes lol) but I just feel like nothing has changed. I feel like it's never going to stop.
Has anyone else used Provera to shed a thick uterine lining? If so, how long did your post-provera AF last for? I know I shouldn't get too disappointed yet as there is probably a lot in there that needs to come out and it's gonna take some time, but i've read lots of stories with women that have a normal 5-7 day (albeit crippling) period and then it stops and i'm like.. what about me?! The period gods really need to cut me some slack
Once it finally stops i'm going for another ultrasound to see what my uterine lining looks like since the bleed. I think I will legitimately cry if they tell me it's still the same.
Any experiences you ladies can share with me would be much appreciated!
