Hi ladies!! I'm a FTM and 37 weeks along so I have no experience with breastfeeding but am really hoping I am able to exclusively provide breast milk for at least the first six months. In order to do that I will have to pump while I'm at work. I have to return to work after six weeks. My question is about how long does it take to pump? I have two fifteen minute breaks and a half hour for lunch. Will that be enough time once I have a milk supply established? How long on average does it take you all? If necessary, I can file a request for extra time to pump but I really hate to do that unless I absolutely have to. Plus there is no guarantee it would be approved. I have a spectra s2 pump that I heard good things about so I am hoping that helps. Any suggestions or experiences are greatly appreciated!!

I exclusively breast feed and pump. My daughter is now 10weeks old and my pumping sessions last between 10-20 minutes. I go back to work in a few weeks so I totally understand but by law they have to give you that time to pump. Check this out here: https://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/employed-moms/your-rights-as-a-breastfeeding-employee/

I was pumping after every feed to increase my supply and it did..ended up getting mastitis. Was pumping every 1.5-2hours. Now she feeds about every 3 and I am not only pumping once or twice.

I stopped listening to the lactation specialist who said to pump two weeks before work...at that time I was only getting about .5-1oz at a time. Now I get anywhere from 5-8 at at time and now have about 300oz in the freezer.

Best wishes for when you go back to work!

I'm still BF but I don't pump anymore but when I did, I needed 20mins everytime I pumped so I would need 10min for each boob. I only worked a 5hour shift so I only needed to pump once, but if u have a break in the morning lunch and then an afternoon break u should be fine

I work full time and I am still pumping for my LG - it takes about 20 mins (if you can get a double pump it would be quicker ) a decent pump is a must though

Work really need to give you the time to pump and a safe comfortable place to do so

Good luck

You should absolutely check your employee handbook or ask HR. I saw in my employee handbook that I'm not required to take time out of my breaks to pump as long as it doesn't take longer than 30 minutes each time. If law mandates smoke breaks for smokers than it better mandate breast pumping breaks too!!
