I need some help. Baba is due on 25 Nov. How do i work out when the 'qualifying' period was that my employer calcuated my SMP from?

Thanks for any help in advance

its the week 24wks to 25wks are you paid weekly monthly or 4 weekly?

Thanks for your reply Pippa.

I am paid calendar monthly. Do u know how long the qualifying period is?

Am here to offer no help at all (sorry! i don't know! :haha)
but we have the same due date! :)
xx

it is that week if oyu are paid monthly. you need to devide by the amount of days in the month them times by 7 for 1 weeks worth

=eg 1200 / 31 = X, X x 7 = weekly pay for wk 25

It's 8 weeks prior to your 25th week xx

I did not know that there is something on the direct gov site that says it is 25th week and how to work it out did not see anything about 8 weeks prior. Might make a difference for me as had to reduce hours due to SPD

Thats great, thanks for all your help girlies :)

Yeah getting on alright, you? And yessssss... And over reacting about every little twinge I get aswell :haha:

As far as I understood, the simple rule is that as long as you weren't pregnant at the time you started you should qualify.

This should tell you

I think it's you have to be employed for the 26 weeks leading up to, and including, the 15th week before the baby is due. I've no idea how much you get though as I didn't qualify for it as i earn less than the minimum limit.

To get SMP as someone else posted you have to work 26 weeks before the 15th week before your due date so for you I think thats like 12th August..... so you need to have worked for that company solidly for the 26 weeks prior to the 12th to get your SMP and then you get 6 or 8 weeks at 90% of your standard pay and then the remainder on the same pay as maternity allowance.
If you weren't employed before your pregnancy you can claim maternity allowance as long as you've worked a certain number of weeks in just over the year prior to your due date. I think it works out about 14 months or so and then you get the basic pay you get after SMP anyway which is just under £125 per week
If your entitled to SMP I think your employer should be completing the paperwork for you because the pay comes through the company and they get the money back when they claim it..... (I think). If your only entitled to maternity allowance then you have to complete the forms but your work have to give you a certificate confirming why they can't pay you SMP.
Its all detailed on the forms on the direct gov website anyway, lots of duplicate pages but the guidence notes detail everything you need to put in there :)

Agreed tink2312, SMP you have to earn a minimum of £97 a week if you earn more than £30 and less than £97 its MA
