Question about blood tests - is there usually a repeat?

We are ttc our 1st for over a year now, and just started to go through the motions of investigating if there are any issues. GP ordered blood tests for me - all hormones, thyroid function, etc. etc.

They drew blood the other day, and today the office called to tell me that GP has ordered a repeat blood test 10 days from the original draw. When I asked why I need the repeat, they weren't able to give me an answer and I'm waiting for the doc to call back.

So my question is to anyone who has been through this: Is it standard to have a follow up blood test when investigating fertility, or is it likely that the test turned up something?

I wish he would have explained in the first place if it turns out to be standard practice and saved me the worrying...

Depends on what he tested for and where in your cycle you are... he may be requesting something like a CD21 which can be used to see if you're ovulating?

Thanks for the answer Berri. As far as I'm aware he does not know where I am in my cycle at all. I went to him as I needed a referral from the GP to get tests etc. covered at the fertility clinic, and he decided to get the ball rolling with blood tests for me, semen analysis for DH.

There were about 15 different things listed on the blood test paperwork. He was also looking for PCOS as an unrelated ultrasound turned up that both ovaries were multicystic and I have a family history.

I guess I will know once he finally gets back to me, I just hate waiting and wondering. Sigh.

Update: it ended up being to compare LH and FSH levels.
