Question about Catheter for C-Section

I've had 2 sections in New Zealand, and the catheter was inserted AFTER the spinal. How cruel to do it before!? Also what's the point in getting you to lie down, have the catheter, then get back up again for the spinal.

My cath was put in after my spinal, thank goodness, and I'm definitely requesting that again for this one. Coming out? They deflated it and it just slid right on out. Was a weird sensation, but hardly painful. Just felt like I was having an intense wee, lol

I'm in the uk and it was after. I'd request it if I was you, they should accommodate you

So good news!

I requested the catheter be done AFTER the spinal and the nurse looked at me like I was nuts. "Of course we always do it after you are numb," she said.

When I explained that it had been different when I had a c-section many years ago, she shook her head and said that they used to do "archaic" things like that, but now it was routine to do the catheter afterward. Thank goodness I was worried for nothing! :)

I also got a nice surprise after the c-section. When I had my teenagers, I was closed up with staples. This time, it was some type of glue on top of the dissolving stitches. What a nice change -- so much more comfortable!

Mine was put in after the epidural, and taken out just before they took me into recovery. I wasn't even aware they had done it to be honest.

Mine didn't come out until late in the day, long after I had left recovery. I'm not sure why it was in for so long, but a nurse did say something about it needing to be clear and commanding me to "drink more water!" so that might have been the reason.

I'm in the US and I have always had the catheter placed after the spinal. I was totally numb and didn't feel a thing. I specifically asked my dr about this just to be sure and they said it was standard to make sure you're numb first. I would put in a request to the doc if it's not already standard procedure! There's no need to go through that pain!

I had one put in after spinal no way would I let them do it before

I had my son almost 4 years ago and I had my catheter put in on the ward before the spinal. Honestly in the whirl of that whole week I don't even remember if it was painful!

I had an emergency C-section on July 30th after a failed induction. However....I was givin a catheter at the very beginning of my induction due to being induced at 34 weeks for pre-e. They had me on a constant magnesium drip before they even started the induction, which meant I would not be allowed to get up out of my bed. So they inserted a catheter without any pain meds or epidural. I honestly wasn't in pain from the insertion...it was mildly uncomfortable and then it was over. And I have a very sensitive vagina...like all the cervical checks they did were extraordinarily painful to me. So I think it depends on the gentleness of the nurse who inserts your catheter.

I had a c section under general and they did the catheter before because they wanted as little time under before getting baby out. It was painful going in :-( but not so much coming out. I an still uncomfortable weeing now at 12 days pp and they think its because it got do bruised.

Certain turton - I also felt saw, as if bruised, my parents who are medical said they "hook" your bladder etc over to one side so it's not in the way when they do a c section and that can cause bruising etc. It lasted a couple of weeks for me xxx

Emergency and planned it went in after x

with both of my sons I had my spinal prior to the catheter. but it hurt like a SOB peeing when they took it out. lol

I had it put in after, i didn't even know until i was on the ward after
