Hey ladies

Im popping over from 2nd Trimester to ask a question about contractions (yep i'm thinking about the birth already ha) ...

With my son my partner and I done the deed  the day before he was due as I kept hearing it was the only thing that really helps to bring labor on. Literally as soon as we'd finished, I got up to go to the loo and had my first contraction sitting on the toilet.

My contractions from the very beginning were then 5 mins apart and really painful, to the point where it sent me into a total panic and I called labor ward convinced the baby was coming as they were so close together already (cringeeee ha)

They told me that being my first baby theres no way its coming that soon & to stay at home until they were lasting a minute, anyway to cut a long story short I went in and got sent home as I was only 2 CM and basically the contractions stayed that close (5 mins) right the way through and were totally horrific

I really thought it'd would be like the books you read where the contractions start half hour or an hour apart and then get closer and closer so you have time to prepare and also to recover from each one ..... Did anyones first labor start off like in the books? or did anyone else have contractions close together from the get-go? also did you do anything to bring on labor or did you just let nature takes its course?

Im definitely not going to mess with mother nature this time, i want to go into labor naturally and would do anything to aviod those horrific pains so close together from the start but im worrying that i might labor like that again even if i dont do anything to speed things up and im panicking already

I would say that all sounds completely normal! I remember having braxton hicks in the morning and afternoon, then around 6pm I started getting proper contractions, and they were every 4-5 minutes from the beginning, when I rang the hospital at 11 PM they were every 2-3 mins and lasted well over a minute each time, it stayed like this until I went into transition at around 6.30am the next morning. I'd say 5 mins isn't that close together, but maybe that's just me?!! DTD releases natural hormones so I don't think you messed with mother nature, I'd say it's one of the best natural ways to start labour. Whenever me and dh would dtd I'd get bh, and a week before lo I went into full blown false labour for about 2-3 hours! So will wait to nearer my due date next time.

I'd say there is a very good chance the same thing will happen again even without dtd, it's probably just natural for your body to contract like that. Probably a good thing, as spaced out contractions could just mean you end up with a longer labour! Don't panic, you'll be just fine and your body knows what it's doing. Have you looked into getting a tens machine, or some aromatherapy oils for early on?

DD1 - contractions were 8-10 mins apart for over a day lasting 1 minute. It wasn't until I was around 6cm they changed to 5 mins apart lasting 90 seconds.

DD2 - contractions were 3-4 mins apart for 7 hours (from first contraction) then 2 mins apart then 1 minute apart lasting 110 seconds until I gave birth.

oh gawdddd sounds like I might be in for more of the same second time around then

ill tell them to have my epidural ready LOL X

Well it'll be interesting to see! I'm sure you'll do great mama! 2 nd labours are supposed to be easier!

Lol, I really hope so!! For both our sakes!
