My best friend has been living in her private rented flat for about 8 months so she's got 4 months left on her contract with her landlord. Her landlord is a big company and have hundreds of properties on there books for rent. She wants to move and asked me but i have no clue if she can? She wants to find another property through the landlord she is with now, will she be able to move with still 4 months on her contract Evan if she wants to move to another property with the same landlord? Or is she tied down until her contract finishes does anyone know?

I would think its up to her land lord really, it would be best for her just to ask him :)

I think she will be stuck until the end of the contract. We are with our Estate Agents and they are part of a chain (but ours are really unhelpful) she might be best just giving them a call to see if they can help her out.

My house is with an agency. I transfered to this house from another of their houses before I'd even been in the other house for 6 months. They just moved my deposit and guarantor over to this one when I moved. I needed to move out of the other house due to damp issues and nightmare neighbours.

If I was your friend, I would speak to them and let them know which house I was interested in and why. xxx

Honestly she should just talk to her landlord. Usually you have to finish your tenancy or pay them the rest of it - However they may be willing to extend her contract but in a different place iykwim? I'd definitely get her to ask - Worst they can say is no. xx

It's up to the landlord. They could allow her to move or tell her she's out of luck and has to stick to the original contract. If it's another property they own that's vacant they probably won't care though and will modify the contract or allow her out of her current one if she signs a new year lease for another property.

we have a section in our contract that we can give notice after 6 months of living in the property (not that we have used it - been here 4.5 years). May be worthwhile checking the contract or speaking to the agent.

I know I'm not in the same country but the same rules may apply. we rented a flat from a big landlord firm type thing. there's no contract period, but if you want to move you have to give 3 months notice. anyway, we needed to move as we had a 1 bedroom flat and needed a 2 bedroom. as it was a special circumstance, they allowed us to move without waiting 3 months but we only knew this because we asked. you won't find out any other way :)
