Morning Ladies, Just a little question,
I've decided I'm going to do BLW,
and have been reading into it and trying to understand the whole idea,
and obviously trying to wait to as near as 6months as I possibly can!
My question really is that at the moment my LO is trying to grab everything,
and watching everything I do, so is very interested inwatching me eat,
but I'm assuming its not the eating he's interested in, its just watching what I'm doing,
but every time I'm out with my sister and friend they keep asking why I'm not giving him food, as that's what he wants!
But I really want to do BLW, so how early do you give him the oppurtunity to play with food?
As at first he'll just play with it? I'm not thinking of doing this now, but if he grabs things just leave him to it?
Or maybe at christmas time, when we'll be sittin as a family quite a bit more than normal, let him join in? He'll be like nearly 5nhalf months?

Any help from any one would be great, especially those who've BLW!

Thanks :) x

I think you are right, he will enjoy watching you do anything, not just eat, it is a developmental thing, very normal and doesn't mean he will have the skills to actually eat the food. I would say there is no harm in offering him food at 5.5 months - he will most likely just play with it, although a few babies can manage to actually eat the food at that age. Mine was 7.5 months before she actually ate much but they're all different.
Ruby's first christmas was when she had just started to eat and it was lovely having her sit at the table and join in with xmas dinner!

I had a similar dilemma. Since Tabitha was about 4 months old she would try to grab our food when sitting on our laps. I didn't let her have any food at that stage as she was just interested in what we were doing and was more interested in our glasses or cutlery than the actual food. I was hoping not to start weaning until 7 months but at a week short of 6 months she grabbed my sandwich and actually ate it. As she obviously had the skills to eat as well as the interest we started weaning then.

we did both tradtional weening and babyled weening. we started at 24 weeks with baby rice. and kept giveing her peice of soft bread to play with then toast and she would have her food then finger foods to play with now she eats both normal food and finger food really well she even tryes 2 feed herself with a spoon.
