There is a thread below this one about sleeping positions and someone mentioned when they were going to kick their dogs out of the bed/bedroom/up-down stairs. This is something I only briefly thought of before and the general idea was that when baby comes I can just shut the bedroom door and they can sleep on the couch until baby is big enough to tolerate them. I know this is wishful thinking because if I don't look at my dog when I come in the door or if I am laying on the cough he wines at me for attention. At night if I move over he moves over, if I get up to pee he gets up to come see what I am doing, if I am eating he wants some. He is literally up my butt the whole time. Our other dog sleeps on the floor at the foot of the bed but will sometimes sneak up onto the bed in the middle of the night if he gets cold. I plan on buying a co sleeper so the baby won't actually be in the bed so I don't have to worry about my dogs smothering him or her....but I never thought about the allergens....oh geeze!

I was told by my OBGYN that exposure to cats and dogs at a young age is correlated to lower instances of pet allergies. I think as long as you know baby will be safe (and a co-sleeper with do that), than you should be okay! My dog and cat continued to sleep in my room and my DS is a healthy 2 year old with no allergies at all!

lol he sounds like mine, phew not the only one his asleep between my feet now he even makes sitting uncomfortable when he wheedles his way between my feet so i sit more like a man..
I am going to send scented clothes of bubs home from hospital so he knows baby belongs to his family and other than pay him attention when i can he will have to take a back step to bubs, I read something the other day that said when you have a baby you realised the dog is just a dog, my teens when I told them were in horror at the thought as his such a baby, on the plus side he only sleeps near me during the day at night he sleeps with my daughter but if he could he would sleep on our bed and as much as sometimes I feel sorry for him at the moment I am hanging on being firm as it would be a mare as baby will sleep in our room for the first 9 months or so x
ps our dog fortunately is a hybrid so he has hair not fur so his a hypoallergenic dog, bless his moved next to me on the sofa xx

Our dog has her own bed in our room and slept in there all the time Harvey was in the room beside us. He's never shown any signs of being allergic or anything.

I wish I had a non shedding breed lol! We have a French Brittney Spaniel ( mamas boy for sure) and a Blue Heeler ( daddy's boy ). Both are males and neuterd but still very protective of their property which they consider to be their home, backyard, and me and my DH. I will have to try the baby clothes that smell like baby before baby comes home because the french Brittney gives you the third degree when you come home smelling like someone else or something yummy to him.

My dog has slept in our bed, with our LO since the day he came home from the NICU. We had a co-sleeper for the first 6 months. Now? They sleep side by side (he is almost two) I know she would never ever smoother him and he is old enough to move himself and does when she's too close.

They are best friends.

And the more exposure (not saying you need to do what I did!) babies get to dogs and cats, the less likely they will develop allergies when they are older.

My dogs are the same with sleeping on the bed!! We have a golden labrador an siberian husky. Both males an take up all the bed!
Im not worried that our dogs wont get on with baby but as i worry wayyyy to much i dont want them in the room with LO an us when sleeping. I always have that 'just incase' voice in my head
So we have put a dog bed on the landing/outside our room so they an still hear us but not in with us. Well last night was the first night and to be honest i thought my Lab would whine as he does all time for attention or to come in etc, well they were fine! I think i was more erm worried they would miss been away from me lol!!
Once LO is home an they know his sense etc i think il slowly let them in the room with us again, There still my first 2 babies!! hehe.

I will admit, I wish I had a non-hypoallergenic breed I love the non-shedding factor, but our kid will not get the allergy benefit from our dog.
Luckily we have 3 cats and hopefully that will help a lot

I have a big dog who sleeps on the landing and a little one who sleeps in my room. The little one slept on my bed until I found out I was pregnant, I stopped her more for the fact I found myself nudging her off when I was irritable (struggled sleeping earlier on), she has a bed in my room though and doesnt try to come up now.

I have also stopped her jumping on the furniture uninvited now as I didnt want her jumping up on the couch or my knee once baby is here. She now just waits to be asked up.

We have a cat too who just does what he wants but he sleeps in the bathroom most of the time. So hopefully no allergies here!!

Haha sounds like most of our concerns are alike! I am worried my fur babies will feel less loved and act out to get attention once baby comes home since they already do that to an extint. For instance my Brittney has separation anxiety so whoever is the last to leave the house on a day he is feeling lonely he will tear up something that belongs to that person. Does not matter what it is, undies, socks, pants, cords, pillow, your side of the blanket! He is such a cry baby sometimes! All I can think about now is that once baby comes I will not have any undies or pillows left since he will be mad at me!
