I know this will vary greatly based on people's opinions but just wondering where would be the best place to emmigrate to the USA from the UK? just looking for opinions!

Are you looking for city, suburb, rural? Liberal or conservative? Desert, mountain, plains, water? Warm weather or cold?

Lots of things to think about :flower:

I think it would depend where you got a job. That would be the most important thing. I'm in Florida now and would like to stay here, but DH has only been able to find jobs in the NY/ NJ area and I really don't want to go there. We may end up having to make the move though.

I'd suggest going where the jobs are. There are plenty of unskilled jobs available anywhere - waitress, cashier, etc. But if you want to find a job in a specific field, you may have the best chances in the middle of no where, suburban area.

I currently live in a big city, finding a job is near impossible if you don't know someone on the inside.

Hi I dont know which part you thinking to go and if u will go there i hope everything will work out for u!I was thinking to move to USA because my Oh is American by birth(raised in uk)and his mum moved there after divorce so my kids would be near their grandma we was really keen to make that big move so bad we put our house for sale in uk ect....but I changed my mind very quick let me tell u why!
While in USA visiting oh's mum my daughter got really sick and we had to take her to the hospital (we didn't have health insurance)my daughter and I spend less than 24 h in the hospital do you want to know what the invoice said???$7000 plus doctors appointment for follow up.we were researching and to get health insurance is $800 per month per person you can get cheaper monthly rate but you have to pay 50%of the doctor bill and travel God knows where to see that doctor because every insurance company got their own doctors or something like that.now if you are home owner and God forbit something happend to one of you family member and ends up in the hospital with HUGE bill they will make u sell you home and if u end up homeless nobody will care(in uk at least government wont let you sleep rough unless you chose that)job is hard to find ATM in USA I know I search for one too unless you want to be dishwasher or work in the diner and rely on tips.food is horrendously expensive so is baby supply.america is beautiful country but you have to be very rich(I hope u are!)to be able to live there.othervise u will end up working only to pay insurances and taxes(I know everybody has to pay taxes I pay them too but here in uk if I'm not making ends meet I will claim tax credit )I would love to be there to make my oh and his mum happy but I can't afford!and to get visa sounds almost impossible even if u marry to us citizen.one thing is good is that for UK house price in USA u can almost get mansion compare to uk houses and I do like their pick up trucks!

They normally can't take your house for debt, excluding mortgage debt (at least not in some states, like Florida).

$7000 for a day in the hospital sounds about right.

Health insurance prices do vary, $800 a month is ridiculous. I pay $87 for an individual plan and it is widely accepted in my area.

"They" will not and cannot make you sell your home. That decision is up to you. How you come up with the money to the pay the bill is up to you, but you do have to pay the bill. Selling your home might be your only option.

Being homeless is a problem in this country. There isn't much that can be done for those who have mental/physical problems. You guys, being healthy and educated, would have no problem.

Food/baby supplies aren't horrendously expensive. Not sure where you got that impression.

I'm not a Visa expert, I know it is hard to get one. I currently know a few people here on job visas, but I also know a few people who have chosen to move to Canada because it's easier to get a visa there.

Hi dept collection company got court order and repossessed my Mil's parents house because they didnt hsve a car and house wat the pricest possesion to cover hospital bill sold for xxx took dept amout and gave bk rest of the money to them they didn't kick them out tho they were allowed to stay there until was sold that's what my mil told me and it was in 1980 I don't know if that is true statement but my mil told me!

Where I got that impression about food and baby supply?from stop and shop Walmart and shaws oh and from my wallet too lol it is expensive compare to uk.but be honest do you think that is ridiculous to work and pay taxes than go to doctor because u sick and get billed for that I think that is sick what are taxes are paid for???or have and accident go to ER and they will say $150 and you can enter emergency room even if you have your own insurance if you don't have it go and borrow if you can't than sorry u can't come in!!!!btw my mil lives in RI I know every state got they own rules and that's the rules in RI!!!!

The cost of living is higher in RI then where I live in KY. The sales tax here is 6%. I'm pretty sure that is way lower then what you pay in the UK and we don't have VAT. I don't pay enough taxes to get "free" healthcare in my opinion. I only pay around $50 a month for all my different health insurances (medical, dental, vision). My employer pays the rest. I guess it's just strange to hear that it is expensive here when I go to other travel forums for Orlando, and hear constantly how cheap it is to buy things here comparatively.

ETA: OP, the US is such a big country with different climates. It all depends on what you want. Hot, cold, urban, country.

Wisconsin is great if you don't mind six months of winter. :haha: Our cost of living is quite low compared to a lot of places, and in general we're quite laid-back and welcoming here.
