Hello ladies,
I just lost my baby from incompetent cervix  (I posted my IC story over in second trimester losses) and I just have a question. Sorry I wasn't sure how to word the title.

-What kind of medication is given to a patient with incompetent cervix? I have read stories of women who were given medication to help them carry their baby longer. I also know about the cerclage, my doctor refused to give me one. I feel completely lost and obsessed with this. I just want some answers and to have my own knowledge going into my future pregnancies instead of depending on a doctor who may or may not be experienced or competent in helping me.

Thanks girls!

Im so sorry for your loss. At 20 weeks my cervix length was 4.7cm and after preterm labor at 24+6 weeks it went to 2.3cm my doctors refuse to do anything until it is 1cm in length. I wish i could help :hugs:

I'm so sorry for your loss. I have an IC as well, but was not put on meds. Please post your questions under Incompetent Cervix - stitch/cerclage - threatened labour. The women here have a vast amount of knowledge about everything from cerclages to meds. ((((hugs))))

Hi hun. So sorry to hear you lost your baby..........what a terrible tragedy for you darlin. You must take time to heal my sweet, then you can think about embarking on your pregnancy journey again.

I have just carried 9 and 7Ib twins to term with a cervical cerclage after my second chikd was born at 24wks due to suspected IC. Things can be done to prevent further losses hun, if your problem is IC. Fortunately as devastating as IC is, it can be fixed because it is a mechanical problem. Many women lose babies and there is no identifiable cause, and so nothing can be done to prevent it.

Let me have a few more details about what happened leading up to your loss, (if you are ready to talk about it that is), and I'll see if I can help. ALso, take ccb's advice and move over to the IC thread hun - just reading thru that thread will fill you with hope at this difficult time xxx

Thank you ladies. I will have to go check that thread out. I am not considering pregnancy again for a while however I plan on consulting with all my options now. I have no idea when I will be ready to have another but I'd like to know what I'm going to do when that time comes. We are having our religious ceremony and wedding celebration at the end of April and I am focusing on that, but I think we might try again a few months after.

My experience with IC is that I, too, had a loss at 23.5 weeks.. Since then I have been followed closely by docs..OB & Maternal Fetal. With my 2nd pregnancy they placed an emergency cerclage at 21 weeks..and complete bed rest. My 3rd pregnancy, they paced it at 13 weeks, and now 16 weeks. Cerclages worked well for me and my babies.. Both my boys were born at 38 weeks and change.. I had the Macdonald stitch..I was also given given pre-term meds.

There are women that get Progesterone Shots or suppositories. Can't give yo much info on that since I don't know. I asked my MF doc, She told me since I had the stitch it was enough. Too Bad I didn't know about it for my first pregnancy..they couldn't stitch me.. but too late o ponder such things...
