so im 23 weeks. and just wondering what recovery from a CS is like? My du? e date is july 1 and we might have to make a 4.5 hours car ride on july 9 or 10.. is that even a possiblity? will I be in agony the whole time, is it even safe

I have had 2 CS and would have been fine with the car ride, sitting was very comfortable. It was just rolling around in bed or standing from a seated position that hurt.

I was the complete opposite to pp. car journeys were hell for me. I had to sit with a pillow between my wound and the seatbelt, had to make regular stops because of my bleeding. Just sitting up for extended periods caused it to hurt. A baby shouldn't be in a car seat for more than 1.5hours anyway as it can restrict their breathing, newborns especially should be flat as possible. If you can, I'd delay the trip. C sections don't always happen on a set date, if an emergency comes in you could be pushed back, baby might need time in nicu. I had to stay in for 4 days after my c section. You just never know what's going to happen.

I agree with pp. It might be best to put the trip off if you can.
I was ok with being in the car but i got tired very quickly so and 4.5hour trip would of been a nightmare.
Plus as pp said - even though your date is 1st july it might night happen on that day. There might be complications etc.
I would say that if you do have to go then you really need to make sure your manage your pain relief well. I was on pain relief for 4 weeks afterwards but it did mean that i was pain free most of the time.

I agree, while it was comfortable sitting, sitting for too long and then having to get up was agony for me, worse than being active. Also, any sudden braking etc may push the belt up against your scar, I would delay the trip if possible :)

I agree with the others, I found sitting in the car painful as I couldn't hack the breaking etc as it felt sharp on my wound.

I would personally put it off, plus that close to your operation date I can't say that I think you'll enjoy being anywhere but the comfort of your own home. I couldn't move too well the first week and it was painful moving around off the sofa or bed and coughing and sneezing hurt!

Xx

Are you having the c-section on your due date? My Dr. schedules c-section at 39 weeks, so you could be potentially 2 weeks + post partum by then. I would have been fine by then to ride in the car, but I am not sure I would have like to make that kind of trip with a newborn. Plus I have been told that many people seem to heal faster from scheduled c-sections than emergency ones (mine was scheduled due to LO being footling breech, so this held true for me) I am sure others will have different stories though.

its not planned. but I know sometimes last minute its has to happen but I think ill put our trip off till the end of the month (3-4 weeks) just to be on the safe side. Thanks for the input girls!!

I was ok to sit but probably not for that many hours....I had lot of lower back pain my first few weeks pp after EMCS.

I was tired and just wanted to stay home after being in the hospital for a week!
