I was wondering....

How long does an average feed take you?

Also do you offer one or both boobs?

I follow Thomas's lead and it seems that he goes through phases of doing different things.

At the moment, at 9 weeks, he does about 20mins on each breast.

A full feed takes about 20 minutes to half an hour and is usually on one boob.
I'll offer both if he is still hungry and one is very full. He also takes "snack" feeds that last a few minutes sometimes.

He usually feeds for about five minute, perhaps a little longer if he is sleepy and wants to comfort suck. When he was a few weeks old feeds could take an hour or more! I am only feeding from one breast.

not necessarily i only offer the one to make sure he gets all the hind milk x

Can you tell when its empty?? I mean they dont seem to ever be totally empty do they but I sometimes feel like my nipple has had enough and I'm keen to avoid getting sore. so far the nips have been great but sore nips were the begining of the end with Emily so I really dont wanna go there.

do whats comfortable for u hun. imone of the lucky ones who never got sore nipps.
x

Thanks Claire :hugs: I'm really enjoying it this time. I feel much more relaxed all round and I suppose there's no right or wrong. She's gaining weight and sleeping well so I cant be going far wrong can I. x

At first, Poppy was taking a good hour to feed. But my supply is just unstoppable now and she seems to have had enough on one boob after about 8 minutes.

Then, I normally burp her, change her nappy and offer her the second boob as that's what the lactation consultant advised me to do. She nearly always surprises me by feeding vigorously from booby two as well, even when she seems dead to the world! She is a big girl though! x

u sound like ur doing great hun. :happydance::happydance:

my mw told me 20 minutes on one boob is a good feed. My lo's has started going longer between feeds now (thankgod!!) so quite often takes 2 boobs now at about 25 minutes each side.

I can sometimes because my boob just feels softer. When my nipple starts gettin sore she's often been on about 15 minutes so i kno its getting towards the end but that doesn't happen at every feed. I found boots expert nipple moisturiser helps loads (just don't forget to move it from the living room when you have visitors, that can be  )

Usually takes a bit longer than 20 minutes and I generally only offer one boob unless she is really hungry and has totally emptied the first one.

My baby polishes off both sides no probs! I know to change him when he starts getting all agitated and coming off and on the boob (and it's not for a burp.)

The lactation consultant helped me loads and she said I had very "little storage space" aka tiny boobs  so this might be why some people need to do both sides.

Up until Sharlotte was 8 weeks old, she was feeding almost constantly for 60-90 minutes at a time. I was getting 20 minute breaks here an there. At this point I was feeding one boob, then the other when the nipple got sore or when the supply went down. At 12 weeks she started sleeping a lot longer at night (4 hours vs. 1.5 - 2 hours). And she started feeding a lot more efficiently too - took about 45 mins to an hour. By 5 months old, she's sleeping another hour at night, and has whittled the feeding time down to 20 minutes (often 10 minutes).

An average feed takes 30 minutes or so, Harry takes both boobs, I give him 15 minutes on each and if he's still rooting for more after the 2nd boob I'll do the same cycle again but that doesn't tend to happen. You feed your baby how you want hun. Hugs.

I would say that Bren normally feeds in about 10 minutes or so, and he now gets just the one boob.

When she was 3 months and younger, she used to feed for hours on end... or so it seemed that way, she could have just been using my nipple as a pacifier at some point... But now that she is older, its anywhere from 10-20 minutes.
