I had my 37 week appointment today and my doctor confirmed that we will definitely be proceeding with a scheduled C-section. LO has been breech the ENTIRE pregnancy and they figure if she hasn't flipped now, it is likely that she never will. The section is scheduled for exactly two weeks from today, but I have one more doctor's appointment in one week to do all the pre-op stuff (have bloodwork done, go over all the surgery specifics, etc.). My doctor told me that this will also be the time to ask any questions I have about the procedure and encouraged me to be writing down my questions throughout the week so that I'm prepared next week.

Since that will really be my only opportunity to get information, I definitely want to take advantage and ask as many questions as I need to. The problem, however, is that I'm not only a FTM, but I've also never had surgery in my life, never been admitted to a hospital, or anything else like that! I have NO CLUE what kind of questions I should be asking! I have a few basic questions written down (How long is the surgery? What time do we need to show up? etc.) but I'm sure there's a ton of questions I SHOULD be asking that just haven't even occurred to me. What questions do you mamas have about scheduled C-sections that you would like to ask your doctors either about the procedure, hospital policies, or anything else? I'm hoping this thread will give me some ideas of questions to ask since I'm sooo out of my league here.

Hi Runaway! Congrats on your baby girl!

I had a c/s due to baby being breech. We didn't find out until my due date so I didn't have time for questions except for the morning of the c/s. I would ask about the process and if baby will be able to have skin to skin immediately or if you have to wait for recovery. I asked after if he could tell from my uterus why my lo was breech. Also I asked if I could have a vbac next time haha.

It was a lovely experience even though i was disappointed at first. Once I had my little guy in my arms the way he came into this world didn't matter :)

Congratulations!!

I'd ask if you have to starve yourself from night before?
What anaesthetic options are there...epidural or spinal etc
Can you have music playing if you think you'd like this?
Can you have skin to skin in theatre ( think this really helps you bond and makes section a better experience)?
Who will be able to be in theatre or recovery with you?
How long will you have to stay in?
Visiting hours and numbers?
How long till you can have a shower?

Stitches or stables? How long will they stay in? Can you have dissolvable stitches?
What signs of infection to look out for?
Advice re return to sex, sport, driving etc?
Advice re how long to wait before getting pregnant again?
Will they support you having vbac next time?
What's the plan if you turn up for section and baby has flipped???
