Never tried ANY fertility treatment of any kind. due to age, endometriosis, low amh/high fsh, etc, told donor egg IVF best. Insisted on trying one time with own eggs (doc not happy). Now trying to get insurance, DH blood/semen ck, my all pre checks. and hope period doesn't start this week, then I am screwed. I need it delayed a day or two instead to give me time to get everything in place. Feeling rather stressed this am.
So they showed me a chart for the antagonist protocol and I see some meds on there such as gonadotrophine, antagon (ganirelix), HCG trigger (ovidrel), then retrieval day some Medrol, Doxycycline), then intramuscular progresterone.
I usually like to be well educated in things but feeling short on time, too overwhelmed, etc.
What are these various meds I see on my chart? From my understanding, none of these are the stimulating ones, right? Did they just not have it on chart or they won't give me something to stimulate for more eggs? I will ask doc's office too. Just so short on time... What is the Medrol/doxycycline? Are any stimulating meds better than others for older women (never tried any meds before to know). Is the antagonist protocol better for older women with low reserve?
I have a lot of hopes pinned on this IVF, because otherwise DH wants to move on to donor eggs. My mind is still not accepting that but age, finances, etc play big role. I only have so much saving and can't afford multiple failed cycles plus more lost time to have that family. My insurance (under specific cutoffs) will allow 3 cycles. So this would be 1 of them, I'd rather save next 2 for donor eggs (the donor eggs I know i'll have to pay for).
Doc doesn't sound too hopeful, saying my antra follicular count in april was 3, amh 0.04, fsh 19.3. I started acupuncture right after that. One month later my amh (different clinic) was 0.48, fsh 11.6 (this doctor is not convinced though). Since that 2nd blood test, I started Chinese herbs too, unequal COQ10 etc...so was hoping by now, maybe there's even more improvement. No blood tests done since to know if any of that has helped.
I guess my question is can antra follicular count change as well. FSH I see can to a certain extent fluctuate. I thought they said AMH doesn't change, mine did though not anywhere normal still. Can acupuncture have helped AFC (antra follicular count)?
Let's say this cycle, going through whatever they are giving me for stimulating hormones, I only produce 2-3 eggs, at that point IVF would be pointless... can the cycle be converted to IUI? the doc seemed to say yes but he really didn't seem happy with my decision to do ivf with my own eggs. He even said oh it's up to you, if you want to go ahead with IVF with even 2 eggs, you can go ahead... I know the success rates would be nonexistent with that.
Just looking for info, some success stories to keep my moral boosted. I wish for a miracle that somehow this cycle leads to a child with my own eggs.
