I don't have my booking in appointment for over a week. I have been on 5mg for months after an ectopic pregnancy which was resolved by methoxtrate (not sure how you spell it). Anyhow, I took pregnancy vitamins with my first little boy and would like to do the same now at 7 weeks pregnant.

Am babbling, my question is will it be safe to take the extra folic acid in pregnancy vitamins on top of the 5mg i'm on now?

You can't take too much folic acid, your body doesn't store it in any case it gets excreted. Xx

I would check with your doc to be sure but what's in prenatals is such a tiny amount compared to your prescription dose. I can't imagine it would send anything over the edge so to speak.

I asked the pharmacist but he just couldn't get his head around why I wanted supplements with no folic acid, lol. I did my best to explain.

Don't take more than 5 mg.If you are thinking about pregnancy or in the first trimester of pregnancy, you are advised to take a daily supplement of 5mg of folic acid and eat a diet rich in folates. This will help protect your baby from birth defects, and reduce your risk of miscarriage.
I found good sources about Folic acid during pregnancy
