Quick help, RE butter icing

I'm making a cake for my dad's birthday later on. Was supposed to be a basic spong with Jam and Cream in the middle, icing on top etc. I've gone and forgotten the ingreidents for the cream in the middle. Has anyone ever put butter incing in the middle with Jam, and if so did it taste ok?

Yeah buttercream and jam go well together!

I use two tablespoons of marg or butter,drop of vanilla essence then add icing sugar until it's the quite thick and the texture i want.
