I have a direct debit due out of my account tomorrow and the money is sitting here in cash instead of in my bank account as it's my mum's bill that she gives me the money for.

Im really not well today  I've got really bad toothache but keep feeling really sick and faint and really dont feel up to walking to the bank and back (im scared I'll pass out)

Is it true that as long as you put money in before 12 o clock on the day a direct debit is due out that it doesn't affect your account (i.e getting hit with fee's?) Or am I going to have to get a taxi over to the bank and back home again (which is gonna cost me a fortune and I'll have to take LO on my knee which I really don't like doing :()

By 12 o'clock, you mean midnight?

No in the afternoon ie tomorrow morning or am I wrong? I don't know where I heard that from lol

No because DD go out after midnight on the day they are due.

Sometimes a day later but if the taxi fare is cheaper than a unpaid direct debit charge then i would go put the money in the bank.

At Natwest, I have to get the money in before 2pm on the day of the direct debit, your account will go overdrawn as of first thing in the morning but they do a final "sweep" at around 2pm, and as long as the money is in your account by then it will go just fine, WITH NO CHARGES.

I know this for a fact 100% at Natwest, not sure about other banks, but assume it would be simular

at yourkshire bank and lloyds you have till 2pm the day the dd is going out so you could leave it till tomorrow

can you ring the bank to change the date of the DD. Then you can put the money in once you feel better.

Thanks ladies, I ended up going to the bank, I asked and my bank said it was done away with in our bank but it's up to head office sort of if you lodge money the same day as to whether or not to accept it and not charge you so not worth it has to be one working day before x
