I have no money in my account but I get paid tomorrow. I want to do my online shop tonight so I can have it delivered by tomorrow or Tuesday. Can I still order it without money in my account because they only take it out once you've had the delivery I think?

Depends on your bank too i think.

As with my account, if i pay with something with my card, or if i shop online and the money doesnt come out straight away, they still set aside that amount of money in my account ready to come out so its not available for me to use or withdraw. So if no money in there, theres no money to reserve and so i couldnt do it.

Isnt there a thing you can do on tesco's where they save your list?

asda dont take the money until the morning of your delivery after they've bagged it up so it would be ok to order tonight and pay tomorrow ive done it a few times

I shop with Sainsburys and my money never comes out until after I've had my delivery... if I'm quick I can get it delivered tomorrow which would be ideal cause I'm inthen anyway... argh! I might just risk it :/

what bank are you with? HBOS do the reserving the money aside thing as soon as you use your card so you'd go into your overdraft or it would be declined if you dont have the funds to cover it.

Then you'll go into your OD or you'll go into an unarranged OD and it charges £5 a day for that .

Grr, I think I'm going to have to risk the £5. It's only till tomorrow, I literally have no food. Thanks everyone :)

It was on Watchdog the other night that some supermarkets only take your money on the day of the delivery (which could be more or less than the original bill). Apparently some people had been complaining because they'd done their online shop and bought some two-for-ones when there was an offer on, but on the day of delivery the offer was no longer on and they got charged full price for two. Check the terms of the supermarket website - should say in there when they take the money.
