I had my first us today at 10+4,(LMP) but baby was measuring 11+1 :)

The midwife said that the placenta was on the left, but the yolk sac (because baby is still getting nutrients from that) was on the right.

So does placenta on the left indicate girl? Or does yolk sac on the right indicate boy? Or do I just have it completely wrong:rofl:

Hi it depends where the placenta is but the scan has to be done inbetween 6 and 8 weeks if it's a tv scan it's correct way I'd it's abdominal left is right right is left if it's a mirror image you lay the scan on your tummy facing away . Left is girl boy is right . I'd go where the placenta is .

This is mine My placenta is in the middle .that hump bit is the placenta . I'm 7 weeks.

It matters where the placenta is, not where the yolk sac is. Somewhere along the line somebody threw in that the position of the yolk sac matters (maybe they just didn't know how to find the placenta but could see the yolk sac and assumed the yolk sac had to do with the placenta) and just confused the entire theory. Ramzi's Theory is pretty straight forward. You're looking for the thick band of greyish-white area around the black gestational sac. The yolk sac is attached to the baby so it is going to be near the baby and it doesn't matter where the baby is floating in the gestational sac, only where the placenta is growing around the sac. Since ultrasounds are mirror images, if the placenta is thicker on the right side of the sac, expect a girl. Vice versa for a boy. HTH!

The midwife told me that it depends on how they are looking at the image on the screen, as there are different angles/settings etc. But she said this was a mirror image (it was TV).

There seems to be a lot of really conflicting information out there.
I read somewhere it was up to 11 weeks, but I did see another that said 6-8 as liloldme said. I also read that it was where the placenta attaches, not where it actually is because the placenta can move? But that wouldn't make sense at 6-8 weeks, since it doesn't move that early.

I'm going to assume it doesnt apply to me since I was at 10+4, but thank you ladies for your responses!
