Random Childbirth Question... Water Beaking

I lost my plug (snotty mucus) around 4 in afternoon, had bloody show (pink wee) when i went toilet around 3 in the morn then waters went at 4am ish. I did have slight back ache during the night so couldnt get to sleep properly .. Leo was born 6 hours later :) 4 weeks early .. most people i know whos waters have broke have been while in bed when they are at their most relaxed.

Lol mine broke on its own at 10 cm so i def had warning contractions ;)

I so worry about this because I too plan to work up until I go into labor. I didn't experience the water breaking on its own with my first as I had to be induced with him. I was about 4 cm dialated when they did break it though.

But I am actually worried about going into labor while I'm actually at work. I work about 40 minutes away, and if I go into labor down there, I don't know if my doctor would come down there to deliver my baby. The hospital I would go to is in the same network as the one I'm going to now, but like I said I don't know if she would go down there for the delivery or come to check on me afterward, or what. Makes me nervous. Another thing I will need to ask her as I get closer to my due date.

In the unlikely event you go inti labour at work, 40 minutes is close enough to get back to your chosen hospital in plenty of time.

Oh I have no doubt I could make it back to my town's hospital if I go into labor while at work. I worry more about any type of pain and working through the contractions while trying to concentrate on driving. I've already been told by OH and my parents to not even think about attempting to make the drive home if that were the case. I understand where they are coming from.

They'd have to come get you, mine started as a bit of back pain and period type cramps so I'd have been ok to drive.
But usually people are at home relaxed and in bed when it starts.

Movies exaggerate lol!

Well for me I was having on and off pains that whole week that got worse that day and I was loosing mucus plug in huge amounts (yuck!) then I was in bed watching birth videos and was laying on my right side when suddenly this huge amount of pressure was on my back and then I felt something was about to come out that I had no control over, I jumped up so fast then SPLASH!!! it was a lot of fluids!

Good luck x

With my first they had to break my waters , but with my second it broke luckily at the hospital as it was the loudest pop and gush of water ever . Movie style haha . Oh and not to frighten u but as my water broke I delivered my sons head !!! Yes very dramatic haaaa .

I actually hope it goes the same this time as my pushing was so easy then .

I've had it both (or all 3?) ways. I've had mild contractions before my water broke. I've had no warning, and thought I'd peed myself, and I've not had water break until the broke it at the hospital at about 5-6 cm. In all the ones where my water broke at home, it didn't get on anything but my clothes, so I wouldn't worry much about puddles in the break room. Not all of your fluids necessarily gush out at once. (With my last, the only way I knew my water had broken was because I felt the pop; he was so low he plugged it with his head until the nurse went to check me.)

I've heard statistics say that water breaks first in only about 10% of labors. Some women tend to have their water break early, I think, and others don't (I have friends whose water didn't break until they were actually crowning). Since this is your first, you have no way of knowing if you're one who will break water early, so no point in worrying over it, right?

my water has never broken on its own...think my amniotic sacs are always made of blooming steel or something xx

I didn't realise it was only 10% of ladies whose water breaks first. I just thought that was what generally happened..... Wonder what will happen this time! I had kinda just assumed it would be similar to last time!

With both of mine, the doc broke my water when I was dilated to about 6-7cm so I was well into labor. My labor was long with both of my first two but they both started off in the evening when I tried to rest. The labor started as an uncomfortable, can't sit still feeling that wouldn't let me sleep or sit and just got worse. I didn't get noticeable contraction until about 10 hours into that and then went to doc and was dilated to 5 cm but neither child was born until 10-12 hours later!
