Rant - So Angryy :s

Hey

As i said in my previous post i hadn't got round to telling my mum and dad i'm pregnant yet till i have my first midwife appointment which is on Wednesday.

So i was totally shocked when my mum text me asking if i was pregnant , as i had been for check up on my knees a couple of months ago and they wanted to send me for mri scan.
I obviously stated i could be pregnant at that point they advised to check with doctor and they would be in touch via letter.

Anyways...

The hospital phoned my house phone and asked to speak to me, i wasn't in and my brother took they call. They then asked my brother if it had been confirmed that i was pregnant or not! Is there not some kind of confidentiality rule regarding this? Any input would be excellent

im not sure hun, but i thought all that was confidential tbf i would have thought they should have left a message asking you to contact them, its patient confidentiality i think hun xx

So annoyed they told my brother who doesn't even live with me
and almost died of heart failure lol

it will be okay hun, its better to tell your parents sooner rather than later as it gives it time to sink in hun, but yeah i dont think the hospital are allowed to do that. xxx

I had this problem as well, before I wanted to tell my parents they phoned my house 3 days in a row (I was working every time!) Asking to speak to me regarding my prescription for a urine infection. I could easily get out of it because I did have a urine infection so just told them I visited doctor and she gave me antibiotics to pick up, but I could tell my family were suspicious after that!

I angrily phoned the doctors office and explained that I wanted my home phone number to be removed from my records as my family didnt know I was pregnant. The woman on the phone was just like "But we wouldnt discuss anything pregnancy related on the phone to your family." I said "I dont care, I have been pregnant before and lost my baby, when the doctor starts randomly phoning me over the weekend, of course my family are going to get suspicious!" She shut her mouth and asked for my mobile number

They should be more strict with things like this, sorry yout family had to find out like that

I really don't thinl they should have asked yur brother as it IS confidential!
Might be worth complaining for causing you unnecessary stress!

2 questions are you of legal age where you live (ex. 18 in canada is an adult?)
Cause if not they do have a right to tell a parent. They told my xMIL i was pregnant before i even knew. She wasnt even blood related to me.

And were your parents at the hospital with you when you brought it up to the doctors? cause they will release the information to your parents if so. I realize it was your brother but they may have thought it was your dad?

Confidentiality rules now adays are f**ing stupid.

Yeah im 18 and from Scotland so nothing at all to do with age or anything.

Nope parents weren't there so it's totally out of order i think.

Tell me about it i'm so angry and it's upset me bcoz it was my brother who doesn't even live with us. It makes me think what else would they say on the phone about my personal life.

I'm definetly going to take it further as it has caused arguements etc.

Yeah, you should deffinitley complain!

Thank you Yes everything with this pregnancy has been fine so far luckily, had 20 week scan last week and baby was perfect, being shy though so we couldnt find out the sex haha! How far along are you??? xx
